But what are you going to do with your degree?

[moderated] I have an 11 average, I am not complaining. If your average is less than 10, you are no different than the people with 5.0's.
The only people that get highly "sought" after jobs, not even worth mentioning what those are, have competitive GPAs. You can come in here and say, "Grades do not matter, it's the total resume." Good luck getting interviews without a competitive (10.75+) GPA.
Does not bother me much, already wrote my LSAT last summer (173), 100% will get into a T15 law school.
Keep deferring...

[email protected] 10.75 average. Hardly any people in commerce have that. Around 40ish out of the entire program? Probably less, that's a very ambitious estimate. You can check to see who got Harry Hooker/Senate.
Also, there's many people with 9-10 averages that get interviews with the big banks and the big four. Any lower than 9 though is a problem..

Nope, you can still get awards like that if you take summer school. Your average is calculated using all courses taken since the last review.

And how do you define being set in life...going to law school (it's a great accomplishment) is going to have its own set of problems. I don't think one can ever be set in life...

Well, employers still see your transcript. Plus, I find summer school harder to get good grades anyway due to a lack of motivation in the summer.

I don't care about names Honours or not, but I got one thing that I care about the most, take finance courses. As I was trying to plan for 3rd and 4th year, I learn that Honours only allow students to take 7 commerce electives. But I want to take lots of them to learn more about finance. And I hate taking electives I don't like.
Pros: Lowering the standard would allow more students to take more commerce courses, which is a good thing. But I think more importantly, is allowing commerce students to take more commerce courses.
Cons: Lowering the standard, like all of you said, the value of Honours decrease. Also hard to distinguish who actually make the effort to study to get those good grades when you look at someone who has Honours.
