Hospitals
I want to volunteer at the hospital starting in September so should I fill out my application now or closer to September? also which hospitals accept volunteers or is there a long waiting list for all of them (Mcmaster, Chedoke, Juravinski, St.Peter's)???

Any additional info about volunteering at the hospital

Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure there's a very long waiting list for most hospitals, so even if you filled out an application now and they were interested in taking you on...you wouldn't be able to start as early as September.

It depends on the hospital. Mac has an insanely long waiting list but some others don't. I got offered a position at Juravinski fairly quickly.

I agree, It took me almost 4 months to get into St Joe's West 5th campus. But it also depends on what you want to do, I mean some areas are always empty. Also I found out the more sought after positions require a farily substantial time commitment i.e 3 days a week 4+ hrs a shift. Others positions are flexible. It all depends on what hospital you are looking at. But there are plenty of volunteer experiences at, and around mac, if you wanted to start earlier. http://www.volunteerhamilton .on.ca/

I hope you have a rock-solid resume. Hospitals are very very choosey in who they pick. Thousands of people apply and only a few dozen new staff are brought on, so you best have a resume that stands out and is well written.

Umm, I'm pretty sure OP stated they want a volunteer position. I think what you're thinking about is more of a job position at a hospital instead of volunteering. There are tons of volunteer positions available in the hospitals in Hamilton, just try applying and contacting their specific volunteer departments, Juravinski seems like it usually has the most availabilities and openings for volunteers.

You definitely don't need a super "rock-solid resume" to get a general volunteer position, seeing as many highschool students with an empty resume get in. Good luck!

No lol I wasn't talking about a job. I don't know about Hamilton but in Toronto its ridiculously hard to get a volunteer position. I applied to 8 different hospitals and only heard back from one. Even talking with the volunteering co-ordinator during my interview, she says they screen thousands of applicants in the whole University health network and only take a few dozen for each hospital. Maybe Hamilton is different.

It's very difficult anywhere you go. Try to look around even in Burlington.
