HSR Summer courses?
Do I get the HSR bus pass if I take a full course load during the summer? (4 courses)
What if I only do part-time? (3 courses)

You don't get a free bus pass for going to summer school, no matter the courseload. The sticker doesn't have "HSR" on it so you can't use it, you have to buy a separate bus pass.
There is the option to purchase a 4 month bus pass at the beginning of summer school at a reduced mcmaster student rate (around 200something dollars I think?). You can buy it at compass. It works for may-august.
When there are 3 months left in the term, the 3 month bus pass is available for purchase, and when there are two months left, the 2 month pass is available for purchase.
You can also just get a monthly adult bus pass for around 80 dollars from any store that sells HSR passes (or by getting a PRESTO card).
Or, you can just use tickets (or presto) if you only plan to commute a limited number of times.
p.s., make sure to buy ADULT bus passes and ADULT tickets. "Youth/student" does not cover university students, and you'll get yelled at by bus drivers who'll ask you to show high school ID.

Last year a summer pass was $273 for May-Aug if you're taking summer courses.
The next cheapest option would be bus tickets, but if you ride the bus more than 136 times May-Aug, the cheaper option would be to buy the pass. There are 123 days between May 1 and Aug 31 - this translates into just over 1 ride a day. If you're just wanting the pass for summer school twice a week, stick with bus tickets. If you're like me and have summer classes, a job and a lot of friends living all over the city, get the pass.

What? Is this a new thing? Because we definitely did NOT have that in previous years.

You should get a sticker, but that sticker shouldn't say "HSR" on it. No "HSR" = no bus pass. It's just proof of registration.

Lol, your sticker doesn't say "HSR" on it though. You just received the regular summer registration sticker. Bus passes are not included.

Actually, as of 2011 the tickets also have a two hour transfer period. [ source]
paper transfers give you a bit more leniency if the bus is a minute or two late, whereas presto automatically takes money off if you're even a minute overtime.
