It's actually the 11th of August. Apparently it takes 8 entire days to section all the students.

You should also make a backup schedule or two just in case.

How would you do that? If you want certain classes on a certain days, you couldn't really change your timetable all that much

It's not what you want but what you can do. Your first timetable should be what you want, the backups are timetables that just work. It's probably a lot harder now that there are less cores or even only one core for many many classes but you can still do labs/tutorials.

Yeah! I tried, didn't exactly work, but I'm forcing myself to do at least one backup :(

No kidding. Only two out of my nine classes have more than one core this year, it's kind of ridiculous. (One of them is first year Psych which... always has more than one core ). My schedule has pretty much been set in stone. :/

Buut yes, back ups are always good. :] I'm sure there's more selection in first year but I could be wrong.

There's definitely more selection, well for science anyways..I think almost all my courses have at least three cores to choose from and there's a LOT of labs and tutorials.

I think that's generally the case for first years. I'm in science and all my classes have 1 core.

Wow, just a one year jump and from three they cut it down to one? That is interesting.

I think it used to be better before but with everything that has happened this year with the economy and layoffs, it was almost bound to happen. It was reported that most universities are going through this. It's lame as hell but hopefully things will turn up by next year.
