Interested in Programming?
Are you a student? Do you/do you want to program? While this may be quite old news, a programming friend of mine gave me this link:https://www.dreamspark.com/ which allows you to get the Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2010, completely free of charge!

If this helps at least one person, as it helped me today, then I will be pleased.

For first year engineering, you need Visual C#. You can do the express, or the whole Visual Studio suite for that. Honestly though, it's free, take the full Visual Studio. You can play around in it, and use it in the future.

Hint: Start programming now! Go online, look for Visual C# tutorials! You learn to program, by programming. Playing now will give you a headstart!

The only reason they used the express edition was because it was free. Now that you can get the entire Visual Studio suite, I cannot see why you wouldn't. You get the Professional edition, which is used by industry. Granted it does take up 6.9 GB, but its worth it in my opinion.

Thanks a bunch. I was disappointed to find out that they started charging for the entire suite - hella expensive, believe me. But it's good to know they still care about students =p

Thanks for the link. LOL, I never knew about this site. However, I think most colleges/universities have agreements with software vendors to provide software at a discount or free of charge. I don't know if McMaster does this though...

They provide a lot of free software for people in software engineering, mechatronics and I think computer science.

Yeah for ENG 1D04, we're doing Python. Which is good, because I learnt Python is Grade 11. Probably forget most of it, but its better than nothing!
