Internet Plans
I am living off-campus next year and I totally lost when it comes to internet plans. I am interested in knowing what other off-campus people use for there internet in terms of company and plan. I know that Rogers does not offer thier plans for the Hamilton area, so is Cogeco the only option? Thanks!

TekSavvy is also an option. I recommend them if you plan on downloading/streaming a lot of online stuff, since they have very high bandwidth caps (amount you're allowed to download a month). They also cost less and are the only non-evil internet company ever.
The only advantage of Cogeco is it's faster, but at a much higher cost with a much lower bandwidth cap.
I have TekSavvy :p

thanks for both of your almost instant replies  How are your plans? Are they expensive? I am going to live in a house with 5 other people, if that matters. |

Teksavvy all the way. Great support + super high caps, speed isn't crazy fast but it's ok.

yeah it does, which is one of my questions.
If there is a phone line in the house (theres an upstairs and downstairs appartment, not sure if people before us had a phone or not, we're not getting one, just using our cells) can we still get TekSavvy even though we dont have our own phone line down there? |

Where are you living? Last year I lived on Emerson, and there is actually a student run company in the area. You need to live within a certain radius of them, but they provide an excellent service.
Very high bandwidth caps (I watch tonnes of TV on the internet and didn't go over once, and I was on the cheapest plan), and the speed is also great. The grand total for this plan was $14/month.

You don't need phone service, just the wires that run through the house.

Im with Teksavvy now and their pretty good. You dont need phone service to get their internet. The standard plan is 29.95 with 5mbs download speeds and 200gb bandwidth limit.

You actually need to get the dry loop service, which basically means they partially activate your phone line (just enough to send some internets over, but no voice). I believe it's about $10 a month for a dry loop.

The speeds are slower, since the rez internet is probably a T1 connection or something like that. It's not that noticeable unless you're downloading a lot of crap (which you were limited to 2 GB a day in rez :p).

Fortunately all the great downloads from DC++ didn't count toward your 2 GB and they were blazing fast.
Not living in residence this year momentary depression. Me wants DC++.
