I don't have one, but it's my understanding that it acts like a hard drive when you connect it to your PC. So you could then use the Disk Management thing in XP, or a partitioning program to do that. It may "reset" the drive.

Oh god don't try to format like that, on Itunes there will be a "Restore to factory settings" button when you plug your thing in. That's what you need and it reinstalls the latest iPod firmware.

When you plug your thing in, and iTunes opens up, click the name of your iPod in the menu on the left, and on that initial screen which shows how much you've used up etc, there is a button saying "Restore to Factory Settings"

okay im a seasoned PRO at ipods... i have owned (to date) 5 ipods. YES. 5. 4 silver ipod minis... and the one ipod i have now.

Now, the iPod minis made me want to hang myself.. i hated the mini with every fibre of my being. More than I hate olives.
But now I have the 30GB video iPod. best investment of my life... i have no problems with it (knock on wood).... money well spent in my opinion. yay for costco

when itunes is opened (this is itunes 7.0 or later) click the name of your ipod and there is an option to reset the ipod to factory settings. i did this for mine because it started deleting songs when it wasnt plugged in and now it works fine. so if you reset it, it shouldb e okay. if anything look on the apple website, they have a good troubleshooting section which usually gives you good results on how to fix the hardware.

Are the Costco 30GB video iPods cheaper than most stores (Future Shop, Best Buy, etc) Because I'm looking to get one and every dollar saved is useful.

I gave up trying to find a deal and just bought one from Best Buy... cost me over $400 when it was all said and done (with extended warranty) and I feel bad for spending that much... even though I can afford it. I'm just really cheap I guess. But I love this thing, 30GB Black iPod Video. Basically I can store my life on it, it rules!

MY IPOD JUST RANDOMLY FIXED ITSELF!!!!

So, I'm about to plug the thing back in to charge, and a menu comes up that says it needs to update the software. I do that. Then, there is an option to restore back to factory settings. So I do that too.

Apparently I did that already, twice...which is the odd thing.

Anyways. I've got around 100 songs on there now, and still TONS of space left.

I don't understand anything that just happened, but I really don't give a shit.
