Our prof last year told us straight up that reading the textbook was necessary for success in the course. I read all the chapters that were covered in lecture (I forget which), and managed to get an 11 or a 12. I think the class average was very high. So I think it's a good idea to invest in a textbook! Get it used, unless the prof tells you otherwise. There were 4 optional 'mini' assignments that you can do for extra marks...I think it was something like 3% extra added to your grade. It will take you 15 minutes to do each assignment, and almost impossible to not get perfect if you attend lecture, which I recommend you do. The course has midterms and a final exam. It was an interesting course, in my opinion. You learn about things like information processing and how your body moves and adjusts to different environments through gait.
