Kinesiology 1A03/1Y03
Okie dokie, I'm a first year Kinesiology student, and I'm forced to take this course, and it is the best course that I've ever been forced to take. No question.

You start with Dr. Parise, who is far and away my favorite prof I've had this semester. You start with embryology and...

I thought the labs were very interesting. In 1Y03/1YY3 (the two courses blended together in my mind) we dissected a sheep brain, pig heart & lungs, watched the lungs inflate, did blood typing, and looked/felt many specimens including cadavers. There weren't any formal lab reports. You had a pre-lab quiz before each lab that you had 4 days to do (Thursday-Monday) and you received that mark if you showed up to the lab.

You actually get 15 minutes to do the weekly test, but you get the extra time to log in to WebCT and access the quiz. It usually took me 5 min or less to complete the quiz though. They are mainly multiple choice with 1 or 2 matching and fill in the blank. You need to know how to spell things correctly! Each quiz is out of 15 marks.

Is there any chance of me getting into KIN 1Y03? Will i have to wait for someone to drop it when SOLAR reopens and/or by the first weeks of September?
I actually took the course since it was my backup as my first choice elective wasn't open. But as soon as that course opens, I'm going to drop it

It's already a rather large course. Not compared to 1st year Bio/Chem/Psych, but there's only 1 section with about 600 students in it. It was kind of overwhelming the first day because I hadn't realized that non-Kin students took it - we were outnumbered 2 to 1!

To be fair I probably could have gotten in if I had decided I wanted to take this before my course selection... I just tend to find things out way afterwards.

Wow! 600 people.. nevermind That's already alot! Wow.. It's so weird that there would be only one section.. Since kin and non-kin students can take it.. There should definitely be more than one section.. But.. oh well :(

Andrew- aww that's too bad :( I hope you figure out what you want to take! And it's not too late to get into Kin.. Best of luck!

It's not as easy as the population's definition of a 'bird course' but getting a double digit score is very doable if you read the book and go to lectures. And yes, i forgot to say that: always go to lectures! It is there that you will find hints and bits about the quiz and ultimately the final exam! For the workload, it goes easy during the first weeks but gets hard when you plunge in to the midterm rush. You will be battling between studying Kin or studying your other course's midterm that's going to be on the same week/day as the Kin quiz. So time manage your way out of the midterm rush and you will have a double digit fo sho.

P.S. I got a double digit by reading the book. The book is your best friend throughout your journey of anatomy.

the requirements for some 3rd year bios is bio 2a03 or kin 1y03and 1yy3... is going with kin courses a better way of being qualified for 3rd year bio courses? Personally, I'm not looking forward to 2a03 because of the prof this year but it seems like it will be really hard to get into these kin courses.
