Kinesiology 1A03/1Y03
Okie dokie, I'm a first year Kinesiology student, and I'm forced to take this course, and it is the best course that I've ever been forced to take. No question.

You start with Dr. Parise, who is far and away my favorite prof I've had this semester. You start with embryology and...

KINESIOL 1Y03 HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY I
An introduction to the basic embryology and tissue development and examination of the anatomy and physiology of the skeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, lymphatic and respiratory systems.
It lies! I checked WebCT to be sure, and we covered the respiratory and circulatory systems in 1AA3/1YY3. We didn't get to the lymphatic system at all. It might be different this year though.

Ah, are you serious? That's crap, I was looking forward to learning more about the cardiovascular and respiratory and learning new stuff about respiratory systems.

Crap LOL

I hear the labs are really interestin, do you do any dissections or use cadavers?

Good question! I can tell what bio/chem labs would be about, but what bout Kin?! Dissection would be awesome!

If there is no respiratory/circulatory and stuff in KIN 1Y03, then i think the dissections would probably take place in KIN 1YY3 since that stuff is covered in that course and not KIN 1Y03 according to what KRan said.

Hmm, that would actually make sense, but then what would the labs of 1Y03 be about?

Well, someone posted this before:

I thought the labs were very interesting. In 1Y03/1YY3 (the two courses blended together in my mind) we dissected a sheep brain, pig heart & lungs, watched the lungs inflate, did blood typing, and looked/felt many specimens including cadavers.

The pig hearts/lungs, lungs inflate and blood typing won't apply for 1Y03. But the dissecting a sheep brain will since we cover the nervous system and looked/felt many specimens including cadavers we might since were dealing with the skeletal system. If i got room, I'm probably gonna take KIN 1YY3 next year if I really enjoy 1Y03.

Does anyone know what kind of labs we do in KIN 1Y03? Any information would be helpful.

The 5 labs from last year were:

Lab 1-Tissues and Embryology
Lab 2 - Brain Anatomy and Neurophysiology (included sheep brain dissection and testing nerve impulses)
Lab 3 - Cranial Nerves and Special Senses (cow eye dissection)
Lab 4 - Bones and Joints
Lab 5 - Muscle Anatomy and Physiology (testing EMG activity in biceps/triceps)

Most of the labs involve the TAs going over the material we learned in class (sort of like a tutorial almost), but I found that really helped me understand better.

There are a lot of wet samples and cadavers that you can touch (soooo cool!) as well as specimens in blocks and plastic recreations.

That sounds awesome! I'm planning on taking Kin 1YY3 next year as well, couldn't fit it into my schedule :(. But it'll be so much easier picking it up next year, than this year!

Ye, I agree about picking it up, everyone goes after 1Y03 but 1YY3 is not commonly chosen by non-kin students haha.

Shouldn't be a problem choosing 1YY3 next year as it was choosing 1Y03 this year.

I'm still mad that the CHEM 1AA3 labs are all full except my L88 but quite a few tutorials are open, weird LOL

Definitely! It should be soooo much easier to get it next year! I emailed them about the chem problem, more than likely we'll have to wait until school starts and/or second semester starts as well :(

Even if they don't open up, you can see one of the lab co-ordinators to try and get you in one of the other sections, that's what I was told in the email for Chem 1aa3 anyway. So I'm pretty sure that it's possible for Kin as well.

Does anyone have an old syllabus for this course? I'm wondering the order that the topics are going to be taught in.
