kinesiology...med school?
I find the programs in kinesiology to be much more interesting than that of life sci.
However, since my main goal is to get into med school, I also have to take courses that will prepare me for MCAT.

My question is, how many (and what kind of) courses are there that I should take to prepare for MCAT? 'cause I have 4 electives (I think), and using two of those for bird courses and the rests on something like o-chem should be doable?

but then again....if I also have 2 electives next year (not sure) then I would only cover 4 "pre-MCAT" courses before taking the test...

If anyone can post 1st and 2nd year courses in kin w/ electives that prepare you well for MCAT, it would be greatly appreciated! (hopefully one in which I can still afford some social life...)

also, plz post your opinion or any similar experiences, thanks again!

Not sure what's required, but ... take 1st year chem and physics those are definitely helpful. Any human physiology courses are also good (I believe there's a Kin-specific one) - Bio 2A03 is really good to take. Organic chem goes into more detail than you actually need for the MCAT. You might want to take an English course or two if you haven't read in a while ... or if you're afraid of your average dropping like crazy just start reading for leisure (Economist, Times, other novels) for the verbal section.

Aside from those, just take things that interest you. Not everything has to be about the MCAT :p

If you take first year Kin physiology (Kin 1A03/1AA3), these courses cover the same material as Bio 2A03, and are much easier/more interesting due to the great profs. If you have the choice, take the kin courses over Bio 2A03 and don't bother with it.

Is that you Dr. "Gmoney" Parise?

Also everything you need for the MCAT should be contained in the "med-school prereqs" (I use the quotations because different schools have different requirements, a few have none at all). Generally that would be 1st year Bio, 1st year Chem, 1st year Physics and 2nd year Organic Chem. These can all be taken in the first two years. If you take summer courses you can have all your med school prereqs plus two English courses (required for some medical schools), your calc requirement and your stats requirement for kin done by the end of second year.

Also you will need a bit of Physiology I understand. Which should be covered in your Kin Anatomy. Also I'd recommend picking up an MCAT prep book.

Admirable choices. But I think it'd help the OP out if you threw up the course codes with them as well (in case they'd like to look up the courses).

I plan on doing nothing my third summer. (That's a lie, I plan on doing research but that's a lot more fun than classes.)

I thought we weren't allowed to take more than 16 first year courses (48 units) :S?

You can take every 1st year course if you'd like, but only 48 units would count towards your graduation.

Is chem absolutely required/recommended for med school or MCAT? I'm in kin too and I took bio, physics, psych and the harder calc as my electives and I took chem in grade 12. Should I drop my psych for chem?

I'd take chem if i were you! Chem 1A03/1AA3 is more in depth than grade 12 and 1AA3 also introduces you to the bit of organic chemistry that you'd need for the MCAT.

But, I'm doing Kin and there's a motor learning course that's required, which I'm taking 2nd term. So I thought that by taking psych it would help me. I'm also taking physics, which I don't want to drop because it will help me in biomechanics for second year. Would taking biochem next year suffice for the MCAT? The grade 12 chem that I took is pretty much what they teach in Uni from what my chem teacher said in high school, he used to be a prof in Britain. But, I'm I don't know what to dooooo, HELP!
