McMaster has a very diverse and open student life environment.

The MSU (McMaster Students Union) provides a service called the "Queer Students Community Centre", formerly known as the GLBT centre, which provides a place where individuals can access resources, support and contacts pertinent to issues surrounding gender and sexual identities. It's also a place where you can gain peer support, and meet other students. You can read more here.

Hi MissMalice,

There are queer students here at Mac. The Allys (reps of the QSCC) are out and visible during Welcome Week. However, as for actual numbers I can't say. I have been in classes where other students have openly admitted their homosexuality, but I have a feeling that many other students don't feel comfortable, or don't feel it's neccesary to tell others their sexual preference.

Hi there Miss Malice!

I'm Andrew, the Coordinator of the Queer Students Community Centre. Much like Chad said we're a service offered by the MSU for all interested students. We offer the following:

- A safe hangout space to meet/socialize/interact with other queer people
- A resource library including books, magazines and DVDs
- A welcome week team (woooo!)
- Social events like laser tag, bowling, games nights, movie nights, a formal (woo)
- Volunteer opportunities

Mac is a GREAT campus to be if you're queer identitified. You needn't worry about being accepted or not, just be who you are and you'll find people you'll get along with. The great thing about university is that there are sooo many people you're bound to find cool people to make friends with.

Look out for us at Welcome Day and during Welcome Week (can't miss our Rainbow flag) and ask for information! Our Coordinator next year is named Ryan, but if you have any questions you can direct them to myself at [email protected]

Or we have a messageboard linked to our website on the MSU page.

Take it easy,

Andrew

oh! and P.S GREAT answers from Lorend and Chad *high five*
