Yes it will (sort of) you can still set your emails that are sent to your @mcmaster.ca address to forward to hotmail, but you wont be able to reply to them with your mcmaster.ca email unless you log in to Gmail (for the time being)

You won't be able to at the moment since UTS handles the login process, like I said below, I'm pretty sure google never sees our login info, which is why we cannot set up IMAP (since it requires a username and password)

I tried e-mailing a prof using their mcmaster e-mail and it gives me a weird notice that says this is only a warning message, you do not need to resend your message. What does this mean? I then tried e-mailing another prof and the same thing happened. Btw I used my mcmaster e-mail to send it, my account migrated yesterday, but e-mails are still being forwarded to my primary account. Should I just stop sending mails from my primary account?

I emailed a prof and got the same message back, but I was using my personal gmail (not synched or anything).

Mark as read option
Is there an option to select with the new gmail system that lets you know when the recipient receives your email or reads it like in the previous system?
Thanks in advance.

20mb of space? Thats not even one attachment....
In fact the things I am disliking most about the new system are directly related to UTS interference (ie no IMAP/pop and therefore no mobile/tablet/outlook). If we had a more pure google experience then It would be even better. Anything UTS touches seems to get postponed near indefinitely.
Website, MUGSI, SOLAR, MUSS, old ELM (not really their fault), horrible WIFI, ...technology...most of its pretty outdated. UTS im sure could use some extra staff and funding.

^^^ I agree completely. I rarely ever login in to my online e-mail accounts. I hate forwarding one e-mail to the next because I like keep it organized....

so after the migration, i decided to test out the new gmail, and it seems that my previous forwarding instructions on muss are still valid :S (i.e. email that is sent to my @mcmaster.ca account is not coming into my new gmail account, rather it is going to muss.cis.mcmaster.ca and then being forwarded to my hotmail account which I previously set up for it to send to). BTW I disabled this forwarding feature prior to the migration, but it still seemed to be forwarding, saved settings and all. Can someone help me with this? I've already emailed the gmail IT but no response.
I can still view email coming into my @mcmaster.ca email but only through my hotmail. Also I'm not even sure if I can sent outgoing messages through gmail.

Did you check your forward settings on MUGSI?

I haven't had any luck yet. My boyfriend goes to Laurier and they have had the google mail for awhile and he got his working on his old iPhone and his current android, but when he tried to show me how to do it, it didn't work.

From what I've gathered so far, I don' think there's anything anyone can do about it. They will probably tell you to just wait it out for a few weeks, up until your MUSS account is deactivated. I removed the fowarding rule before migration and it worked just fine. Maybe you forgot to save your settings?
Also, I got a reply from UTS concerning IMAP/POP access:
"IMAP and POP functionality that allows to read emails on smartphones and via email clients, like Outlook and Macmail is not available by default with our setup on Google Apps. We are working with Google and other Universities to develop a solution that will satisfy our privacy laws and the privacy impact assessment while providing this functionality to students.
We apologize for this inconvenience. We hope to be in a position to implement such solution in the next few weeks."
