life sci 2d03 vs bio 2d03?
As a 2nd year H. Life Sciences student, which course would you recommend (as a course that will lighten the load): Life Science 2D03 (behavioural processes) or Biology 2D03 (plant biodiversity & biotech)?
thanks!!!

I've taken both courses and would definitely say that Life Sci 2D03 has a lighter workload. Bio 2D03 has weekly 3-hour labs and three lectures. Life Sci 2D03 was supposed to be a 3 hour evening lecture/week, but the prof usually ended the lecture at least 45 minutes early. In terms of the concepts taught, the ones in Life Sci 2D03 were almost common sense. Due to the evaluation breakdown (2 midterms and an exam), I didn't have to stay on top of the material in Life Sci 2D03. I could study a couple of nights before and do well on the assessments (not condoning it though). However, for Bio 2D03, I always had to stay caught up because there was a lot of material covered. Hope that helps!

I'm worried about the course breakdown for life sci 2d03 -- the marks are solely based on tests and an exam, as opposed to having assignments/labs/etc. Do you think that is a downside to the course?

I took Psych 2TT3 (same as Life Sci 2D03) and Bio 2D03 in different terms, but I'd say animal behaviour was easier than plant bio. Plant bio labs were long and you had to know everything for the lab exam, in addition to lecture material for quizzes, tests, and the exam. Animal behaviour was just lecture material for two tests and the exam. I don't think there's a downside but you do have to study for the tests - it isn't plain memorization and he tests concepts and understanding (but they aren't that hard so you should be fine). Because the tests are worth so much it is important to do well on them although if you put some effort into studying they shouldn't be hard.

I agree with Ramya, as long as you don't take studying for the Life Sci 2D03 tests lightly, you should be able to do well in them. Just know the definitions well (for the short answer section) because he does ask us to define words on the tests, and he/TAs can be picky about the wording at times. Honestly, this course had a lighter workload than my elective bird course, so if you want to lighten your load, this is the course to take!
