Life Sci questions
Is Kajiura/Zhu or Kajiura/Wilson a better combination for Bio 1A03
How about Kolasa/Stone or Quinn/Evans for Chem 1A03?
Lastly, is there a difference between Kin 1A03/1Y03 ? When I look at the master timetable they combine the two but 1A03 and 1Y03 have different Core dates/times...Can I choose the core that is in the 1A03 slot or is that reserved for only Hon. Kin students?
Thanks in advance

Yes, that's right. Kin 1A03 is only for Hon. Kin students.

"How about Kolasa/Stone or Quinn/Evans for Chem 1A03?"
Don't you mean bio 1m03?
Of the four profs, these are the opinions I have based on which profs I've had:
I had Kajiura/Wilson for bio 1A03. Wilson tends to test on the very minute of details, and her lecturing is kind of dry, but kajiura is enthusiastic and tells you specifically what to expect. As for bio 1m03, I had the Stone/Quinn combination. Quinn has easier test questions and is a lively lecturer, whereas Stone reads off the slides and his lectures tend to put me to sleep. On the other hand, Stone's questions weren't too bad either.

Thanks! No, I mean Bio 1A03 for both. Zhu/Kajiura are the first term teachers and Kajiura/Wilson the second term teachers.

She meant Bio 1M03 instead of Chem 1A03. They don't teach Chem - they're in the Bio or Origins dept. lol

I took BIO 1M03 with Hurlbert/Kolasa in Fall 2010. I found Kolasa's teaching to be a little dry, however, that is sort of compensated with fair and pretty straightforward midterm/exam questions. I recommend taking the course with Kolasa.

I had Stone/Quinn for Bio 1M03. I didn't really like either of them. Stone literally takes sentences from the textbook and pastes them onto slides to make his presentations. And his exam questions were just stupid. Quinn was better, but the material he was teaching was really dry (ecology). I just really hated that course

BIO 1M03 exemplifies the fact that you CANNOT do well if you do not enjoy the class material.
I had the same profs as Bernard. Stone had atrocious notes that were carbon copies of the textbook but his midterm was easy. Quinn on the other hand had harder tests but was a pretty great teacher.
However, despite 2 fairly good profs I hated this course beyond measure, slept through almost every lecture, and nearly punched my computer while trying to memorize all the useless crap for the exam.
So again, don't take classes you won't like just because they seem easy. Unfortunately you don't get a choice with BIO 1M03 but use this rule when deciding on electives.

These are NOT chemistry professors. They're biology.

I haven't heard of Emslie before, but I wouldn't want to take the class again with Dumont. He's a nice prof and tries hard to do his job, but teaching is not his thing imo. I would go with Lock, Goward or Landry if they're available. You can also go to each profs lectures in the first week and decide which prof's teaching suits your learning style.
EDIT: I just looked up the timetable and noticed there's only Dumont and Emslie. Why is Dumont teaching so many cores?

I have had Kajiura, I'd say she's a good transition from highschool to university in the way that she teaches. I have heard bad things about Zhu, but haven't had her/him personally. I would try and avoid Stone, I personally found him rather boring since he had this lame monotone when he lectured, and his exam questions were confusing. Quinn was a great lecturer and his exams were fair.
I've taken KIN 1Y03 and KIN 1YY3 and both are the same as their 1A counterparts. Unless they changed it for this year, last year they were held in the same room at the same time... you were essentially in the same class, but a different course code.

Yeah, for Kin 1A03/1Y03, they have always been the same course held in the same room at the same time, just with different course codes to differentiate between kin & non-kin students...
This year it looks like they're separate...but I know for at least one other set of courses that follow a similar format (diff course codes for the same course depending on the program the students are in), the registrar messed it up this year and then it had to get switched or something...so it might be a mistake, or they might have actually changed it. Either way, if you're not in kin then you have to register in 1Y03, and maybe email the dept asking about it?
