Hey, I emailed an academic advisor today from the department of biology and she also told me that the cut-offs were the same as what the above post says. She said that this year, the interest in biology skyrocketed, and the undergrad biology society had to raise the cut-offs. If only I was born a year earlier, I would have gotten into biology *sigh*.

Just to make sure....
When I complete honours Life Science 2 this year, as long as I shadow a biology program and make the cut-off, I WILL be able to transfer into a specialization in third year, right? How does that work... do they make more spots available for transfers going from 2nd to 3rd year??

It's all competition so nothing is guaranteed, but as long as you shadow and complete all the requirements then there is always a chance.

So even if i make the cut-off in 2nd year I won't be guaranteed a spot? And by cut-off, I mean the lowest average that they accept into the program, not the lowest average that you can apply with.

The lowest average that they accept into the program is never known until after everyone has been accepted though. So that average depends on the number of people that apply and their averages. So if there are seats available and you beat out enough people to get a seat then you will be accepted. Nothing is guaranteed in programs with limited seats, everything is about competition.

I KNOW!! And mol bio was an 8.5!!! Isn't that brutal! Last year mol bio was only a 6.9!! Like I said before, if only I was a year older, I would have been in a specialization lol. Oh well, this gives me more drive to work extra hard and get in for third year .

Biochem vs Biopsych
I'm still debating whether to do biochem next year or biopsych.... sigh I really hate chemistry but biochem sounds so interesting. I should have applied to bio specialization. Man.... so yeah i'm just wondering if anyone know if biochem has any hardcore chem courses, cuz i'm trying to avoid it lol, it seems that biochem has alot of bio courses though. :s

Molecular Biology and Genetics isn't actually a specialization by the way.

Its probably going to keep getting easier with each year, not only because of lowered standards but because they get better at making the courses each year (usually). Chem and Bio 1A03 definitely got easier this year, but Bio 1M03 was easier for us than the year before us. And adding Math 1LS3 and Physics 1L03 probably boosted averages as well.
So pretty soon you'll be needing 10's to get into anything

You know there is another way to see this boost of intelligence from the next generation.. lol.. we dont know all the cut offs but what if more ppl just wanted to get in to bio and that drove it crazy high.. what if its mad lower compared to normal in the other streams.. Taking nothing away from them but still.. think bout it.. i have not seen one post on macinsiders of ppl complaining about anything but bio this year.. just my 2 cents..
