Life science kinesiology 1y03
hey I was looking through the sea of first year life science schedules and noticed that not a lot of people are taking kinesiology, is it rare for people to take it? Because it seemed like a pretty fun course to me.
right now I have
BIO 1A03 1M03
CHEM 1A03 1AA3
MATH 1A03 1AA3
PHYS 1B03
PSYCH 1X03
KINESI 1Y03 1YY3
I want to get into biochem, i checked the requirements and i dont think my courses are in conflict

I'm planning on taking both Kins. And yeah I plan on going into Biochem as well. The thing is, I've heard that the Kinesiology courses fill up fast...REALLY fast.

Ya, pretty bad sampling if you look at schedules here lol. But you look fine for biochem, just make sure to check the undergraduate calendar where all the academic info is located.

It's not rare for people to take KIN 1Y03 and KIN 1YY3, the class sizes are about 500 students each. They fill up fast because IMO they are some of the better run courses and interesting courses for first year.

it's a fun course, but it's also a huge class. There's only one class, and it's a required course for all first year kinesiology students, as well as medical radiation students. Other spaces are left for everyone else to take it as an elective. the room wasn't always big enough for everyone to have a seat, so a lot of the time, you'd see people sitting at the back or sitting at the stairs.

There are actually enough seats (1 student to each seat), unfortunately there's always a small number of stranded seats places.

I'm hoping to go into Biochemistry as well, and also taking Kin 1Y03! Unless HTH SCI 1PA3 turns out to be apart of the Life Science I Course List, then I'd drop Kin.
The only thing that worries me is if the Biochem program has a lot of applicants and if I don't get in I have a very slim picking of other programs I can get into because I really don't want to take Psych 1XX3 if I don't have to.

I'm not 100% certain about this but you may be able to get a conditional offer to Honours Life Sci and then complete PSYCH 1XX3 by the end of Level II.
Also, if I recall correctly the cutoffs were 8.0-8.6 for the Biochem programs. After Term 1 if you don't think you'll be able to meet this cutoff, you can always add in PSYCH 1XX3. I doubt it'd be full, it's a pretty massive course.

Who should I contact to see if there's a conditional offer like that? I've tried calling the Dean of Science for the past 2 days and every time I call it says they're busy.

Contacting the Associate Dean's office would probably be the best bet. They are likely flooded with e-mails and calls right now so don't worry if you don't get a response right away.
You still have tons of time to change your courses around and like I said before, PSYCH 1XX3 should not be full considering how many people take it.
Hopefully someone else sees this and can verify or discard my theory about the conditional offers.

It's not rare at all, it's just that there's 1 core of 600 seats and with seats saved for Kin students and Med Rad students, there's only about 150 seats left for Life Sci/Science students. So whoever gets in first, gets a spot. It's not about rare or not, it's more about the class capacity.
