looking for West Village Suites feedback!!
Hi all! I just recently got my Mac acceptance but unfortunately was not accepted for residence, I did apply and am on the waitlist but it seems like my chances are slim to none of getting into rez. I REALLY want the rez experience!!! And it seems like WVS is a decent alternative to that. If you guys have any helpful comments about WVS life, please comment!! I do have a few specific questions though:
1. Approx. how many students at WVS are 1st years?
2. how similar is it to rez?
3. is it very quiet like a normal apartment complex or is it more similar to rez (partying, noise, etc.)? Will it affect my first week/ frosh experience?!
4. Would you recommend it to a first year who really wants an experience like rez??

And on a sidenote...was anyone waitlisted for residence and then accepted? and if so when did you find out?
thnx !!

I was there a year ago and it is similar to rez except for the fact that u gotta take bus every morning. Taking bus can be tough sometimes especially when you have night classes. Bus comes really late in the evening so most of the times, I ended up walking.
Noise level really depends on your suite mates.

One thing I want to point out to everyone is that the internet there is extremely slow..
Sometimes, the connection is just fine, but most of the times, you get a connection for half an hour and you get disconnected for a little while and then get connected again. If you are thinking of playing games in your spare time, then WVS is not a place for you.
I have a friend who lives there now, and he is having the same problems with internets.

Other than that, I think the place is fine for students.

I'm living at WVS right now and will continue to for the next 3ish years. A few things to mention about it:

1) The internet is slow because the router provided is crappy. Switching to Ethernet or investing in a good router split among the housemates is advised. With ethernet, I have had no problems at all streaming HD content on youtube, downloading large files and what not.

2) The number of first years is probably low, I only know one person who stayed at WVS first year and I'm guessing most don't because residence is the preferred method.

3) It is similar to residence except that the rules are a lot lighter and it is more self-managed to a certain degree.

4) Personally, residence is a fun experience and I would recommend it if you are financially capable. Living on residence was something I personally do not regret and most people love it.

On the bus note, it is about a 10-15 minute walk to campus which is something that no one should have problems with, even in winter unless physical problems exist. The bus system is pretty good as long as you make sure look up the schedule or Google Map it first.

For the social aspect, it is similar to residence in that what you experience is based on what you make. If you go around the building meeting people, and taking the initiative then you will have a very social experience in the building. Even just becoming friends with your roommates will be a great step. This is one area where residence definitely is better in the sense that you are a lot more social in residence than off-campus. There are some events in the building but nothing comparable to residence.

TL;DR : Live in residence first year and if finances allow live in WVS, good place to live.

wvs isnt worth the price. most people here dont know anyone besides their own suite mates. and the rules arent tighter as the guy above me said. its nothing like res. you will barely see anyone outside your room here unlike res

I thought west village suites was nice in terms of getting a much bigger room than res, my own washroom, and cleaners. It was also convenient to have a gym in the building, I made so much more use of it. The social aspect is what you want to make of it. Theres lots of people to interact with, you just have to have some initiative. Try to get out to some of the events, the gym, etc.

Also if you haven't signed a lease yet, I'm giving away my room for September and it has its own washroom!

I lived off campus first year. It was awesome, more work but the freedom in my opinion is worth it. You wake up to living alone and managing things faster.

How much do you pay for your room? And how many roommates?

There's lots of feedback and threads on MacInsiders from students that lived in West Village Suites. Just do a search and you'll find lots. For example, here's some feedback from students that lived in there before: http://www.macinsiders.com/showthread.php?t=3809 1

Note: West Village Suites used to be called West Village Condos before they changed their name to "West Village Suites".

the building provides the internet and I'm guessing it is easier for the building to not have to deal with its tenants all getting their own internets. For a 5 room suite with 2.5 washrooms it is currently 579/month. You can find this info if you go to the building itself (only a 10-15min walk from campus) or from their site.

Cheers and have a great summer!

Hi! I was just wondering if anyone knows the approximate dimensions of the bedrooms? You mentioned you had your own washroom, that's what I'm looking for
