I'm pretty sure the hassle of replacing all of your identification and such is worth well over $100 especially since now is a stressful time in the school year

Honestly, I wish I was that girl. It's not about that "oh noez humans kant b trusted nemore." You lug around that much shit and you're careless with it, you're asking for it. Hell, I woulda taken it. I only wish I pissed at school.

You think it's better to carry around all that stuff instead of leaving it at home in case someone might break into your house? Seriously? By that logic, I should start lugging around my laptop, my 62 inch TV, my 20 inch TV, my guitars, etc.

Because it couldn't possibly be that lady.

Jesus, crap like "she shouldn't have taken so much to begin with" isn't real justification for theft. I mean, if she lost something a lot more practical like a cellphone or a camera, would you change your stance on the whole thing? Or would it still be okay to steal it?

I'm not a very organized person so I've lost my wallet three or four times at least, and even lost my cellphone twice. I nearly never carry anything of value in my wallet (except my MasterCard, which I can cancel and regain easily) but even then, I've never had a single thing stolen from me.

To assume everyone (or most people) are like you, I would say is a bit cynical. There ARE some people in the world who would not resort to petty crime, some people who actually have some sense of right and wrong.

These examples were just really simplistic though, but hopefully you'll get my point about stealing. Its right in some contexts, wrong in others. Again, its just what I think.
Stealing is stealing. People who are rich may well be rich because they worked their asses off for it (not always of course, what with inheritances and all). They have also paid considerably more taxes than any of us, so don't go throwing the "well what are they giving back?" argument. Their wealth supports low income families indirectly through all the government programs that their 46% tax rates pay for.

Edit: Just in case there's anyone on here who knows about taxes, I will correct myself and say "46% MARGINAL tax rates". Otherwise, ignore this edit.

... and then the bus driver instead probably helped themselves to the contents of the wallet .

I do see where that logic comes from. I found a 20 on the floor of the movie theatre and I gave it to the cashier. My boyfriend said I should have kept it because the cashier was going to pocket it anyway. But I would have felt so bad. Besides, what am I going to do, put up "Found: $20" posters?

Looking back, I'm sure I could have taken it. I doubt the person who lost it would go all the way back to the movie theatre and ask about it. But it wouldn't feel right. I would feel guilty for days!
