Mac Farmstand, the MSU's student-run farmer's market, is preparing for its grand opening on Wednesday June 22nd from 11am to 4pm in MUSC Marketplace. Alongside free local food and live musicians, the event will feature a ceremonial apple biting at 12 pm, celebrating the beginning of Mac Farmstand's sixth season. Mac Farmstand will operate throughout the summer in MUSC Marketplace, but will, from time-to-time, take to the great outdoors and enjoy the nice summer weather in front of the Nina de Velliers Memorial Garden near University Hall. Mac Farmstand will be open every Wednesday and Thursday from 11-4 until the end of October.
Sourcing their products from local Ontario farms and organizations, Mac Farmstand allows the McMaster community to discover a variety of food produced close to home, encouraging a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle. Through local partnerships, Mac Farmstand brings delicious produce, honey, syrup, jams, bread, and baked goods right to McMaster's campus. In addition to bringing sustainable snack and grocery items to campus, Mac Farmstand aims to advocate for the importance of locally grown and prepared food, educating students and the community on the environmental, health, and economic benefits. Mac Farmstand will accept cash, student card flex dollars, credit or debit for all purchases.
Mac Farmstand is currently recruiting volunteers. If you're passionate about local food and want to learn more about nutrition and sustainable food systems, click here to read the volunteer application and apply online.
