MacInsiders Rewards + Power User Points

A great feedback discussion came up in the "Important Changes" thread about the Rewards system on MacInsiders. We want to make official and bring more attention to our new rewards system we're calling "Insider Reward Points" and our old system which will now be called "Power User Points". I'd like to tell you quickly about our new rewards system, how you can use it to get giftcards such as a $5 Amazon Giftcard just by doing what you're already doing.... visiting MacInsiders!

Insider Reward Points

You will now see a "REWARDS" link in the top header beside your new 'control panel' link. Clicking this will bring up a page showing your current reward points total. You gain reward points by visiting MacInsiders on a daily basis, as well as tweeting and posting/sharing on Facebook certain links that you see on MacInsiders with a red ribbon floating beside them (they show up occasionally on the site but not always - keep an eye out for them!).

Reward Points can then be redeemed for giftcards in our Rewards Catalog. You can view it by clicking the Rewards link, clicking the green "Earn More" button, and then clicking on the "Catalog" tab.

Currently in our POINTS CATALOG that you can get:
  • $5 Amazon Giftcard (only 8500 points!)
  • $10 Zynga game card (FarmVille, CityVille, FrontierVille and CaféWorld)
  • $15 Groupon Gift card

Power User Points

In order to help avoid confusion the old rewards system is now being called "POWER USER POINTS". You earn power user points by interacting on MacInsiders and doing actions such as posting replies in the forums, posting new threads, playing in the arcade, visiting the site, and more. Certain actions are worth more points... it's a magical secret formula that is locked away in an underground vault at an undisclosed location, so don't bother asking

You can redeem your Power User Points for cool account upgrades in the redemption store such as changing the colour of your forum username, bolding your username, giving you extra privileges, and more.

Both of these can be quickly and easily found in your upgraded CONTROL PANEL section.

I hope these reward and points system help make coming back to MacInsiders a fun experience for you all!

Regards
Chad

sadly the amazon gift card is for the amazon.com store, which doesn't ship to canada. same with the bestbuy.com one that was offered a while back. if there was a way to limit the prizes to canadian-only locations that'd be great.

I really like the rewards system though

hmm thx for the fix... also i remember on the original one you could see like the "leader board" which was cool, and also here you can only see what rewards are available to you atm, but before you could see what you could get with more points which i found nice.

Amazon.com does ship to Canada. It's just that certain sellers do not.

Amazon.com does ship to Canada I've done it many times. Just make sure to order from Amazon and not the 'other sellers' that are listed on Amazon when Amazon doesn't stock the product.

You can view the leaderboard by going to the reward's page and clicking the green earn more button. If you click catalog it also shows you all prizes you can get that you can save up points for and it tells you how many points you have left to get in order to redeem that prize.

The giftcards change on a regular basis... so keep checking back as different ones will pop up. When we first launched the rewards system there were Starbucks giftcards but they are all gone now. May be more in the future

When I went to sign up, I noticed the following in the 'program rules':

The PunchTab Rewards Program is offered only in the United States (“US”) and Puerto Rico (“PR”) (excluding, without limitation, all other US territories and overseas military installations)

Mightn't this pose a problem? I know, I know, nobody actually cares about the fine print, but I wouldn't want MacInsiders to get in trouble for encouraging 'fradulent accounts' or something like that in the future. Of course, I'm probably just over-reacting
