In most programs, you're allowed to take upto 48 units of first year courses (this includes the 30 from your first year). If you do take more than the 48, you can but they won't count towards your degree - it'd basically be for fun.

You can take as many as you'd like up till the 48 unit maximum. I know a few people who took 1 course, while others took 6 after first year. So it's really up to you and what courses interest you. As for professional schools, most require that 3/5 are at your level, so if you're in second year, 6/10 half year of 3/5 full year courses must be level II courses. This only applies at some schools, others have no limitations. Look at the schools that interest you to double check what their policy is regarding that.

I had 4 extra first year courses, but 3 of which were taken during summer school.

Professional Schools require 60% of your courses to be in the same year as the year you are currently in.

Therefore, 2nd year must be at least 60% level 2 courses; 3rd must be at least 60% level 3 and 4th year must be at least 60% level 3/4

I'm taking one in summer and I have 2 next year. I also took one last year. So that's 4 in total. The main reason is because I need them for professional school.

2, but both of them are compulsory though (physics 1BA3 and math 1B03).

And I don't think I'll take anymore 1st year courses after this year.

I'm taking 3 this coming year, and 1 more perhaps in the summer or in my third year. Once again, 4 total.

It honestly depends on the school in question, so look it up or call/e-mail to make sure. I had to take 3 first year classes last year, and I'll need two more for graduate school.
