How many hours of sleep per night do you need to feel refreshed?

Not how many hours do you get on a regular basis or during school.
How many hours to you need to get in order to feel refreshed until bed time the next day?

I'm just curious because I sleep A LOT. I'm wondering how I compare with others.

I don't know how to answer this question, because it varies depending on sooo many things for me: activity level, stress, amount of daylight, illness, amount of sleep previous days etc.

In high school when I was playing soccer it was about seven hours. I think it may be around 6-8 now, but I don't really know because I have issues getting the same amount each night.

For me, I only need 8 hours to feel refreshed but obviously I sleep in longer whenever I can. However, it's kind of weird, if I get below 5 hours I can still function fairly well because I'm so overtired or something but anything in between 5-7 hours I feel like a mess.

EDIT: haha Lorend, you're thanked 666 times. I'm tempting to thank you just to change that. XD

I prefer getting 9 to feel actually refreshed, but I haven't actually gotten 9 hours of sleep on a school night in years.

I agree, when I sleep like 4 or 5 hours, I'm so overtired that I have enough energy for the day. Until I get home, then I go straight to napping.

I generally need 10 hours of sleep to have enough energy from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed. Anything less and I'm exhausted.

Lol Ya, it's usually enough to get me to school, do my test/lab without a problem then come home and crash.

I just need a min of 4 hours to feel good, and it will keep me going for the day. The most i can sleep is 10 hours. But 8 hours im happy with.

i personally hate sleeping. its the biggest waste of time. so unproductive. but you need it. I envy Jay Leno for just sleeping 1 hour a day. Uses the 23 hours for production

Wait what? ONE hour? Do you have a link? It seems like tabloid riff raff :S

I personally don't sleep regularly. Like I stay up for 30-40 hours(even during regular school days) and then sleep for 9-10 hours. I'm okay with 4-5 hours of sleep though, I feel horrible waking up but eventually I am able to function the whole day.

I also read that if you sleep too much(like over 9-10 hours) it is actually counterproductive and makes you feel more tired :S Is it right?

Edit: Just found a link for this stuff http://www3.utsouthwestern.e du/lib...r/nufSleep.htm Apparently alot of inflential people didn't sleep more then 5 hours a day and that you are more likely to die by sleeping more then 8 hours a day then by sleeping around 4-5 http://www3.utsouthwestern.e du/lib...r/nufSleep.htm
