McMaster Association of Part-time Students (MAPS) is looking for a student who would like to work for us part-time as our bookkeeper. We would like someone with some actual experience doing bookkeeping for a small to medium sized business (or at least experience in the mechanics of what need to be done each month). Ideally the student will be working towards a professional accounting designation, but really if we can find someone who is competent and can work 6 hours per week, we'd be happy.

The job posting is available on the MAPS website, which I can't provide a link for because I haven't made five posts yet ... but its on the mcmaster website slash MAPS

From the posting:

This is a new position at the Association, which we believe is perfectly suited to a student who intends on making their career in accounting and would benefit from some practical experience while
studying. Reporting to the Executive Director, the bookkeeper is responsible for ensuring the books of account are up to date, including payables, payroll, remittances to WSIB and CRA, and the preparation of cheques. Additionally, the bookkeeper completes all month-end transactions, ensures all account balance, and produces the monthly statements for review and sign off by the executive director. The bookkeeper will also work with the associations Treasurer, periodically with the finance and audit committee, and with the Corporation’s auditors in January and February as they complete the year end audit.

Who are MAPS?

We are the McMaster Association of Part-time Students. We represent part-time undergraduates, continuing education and clinical behavioral sciences students to the university administration and the university community. MAPS was created in response to the unique needs of part-time students, who are often juggling home, work, and school responsibilities.

Our focus is to try to make the McMaster part of their lives a little easier by providing support in navigating the university’s administrative procedures and online services, providing a lounge where our members can relax and study, access to computers, and printing, scanning and photocopier services charged on a cost-recovery basis. We also provide one-on-one assistance for part-time students by providing them with information on university procedures, training on the use of SOLAR and MUGSI, and advice on how to best approach situations involving the university.

Personal Qualities

To excel in this role, you should be someone who:

 Can work in a potentially distracting environment (the office is open-concept)
 Is computer literate, and familiar with Intuit QuickBooks
 Has experience in basic accounting in a practical environment including posting transactions, journal
entries, processing cheques, and performing month-end activities
 Has experience preparing financial reports and explaining them to student leaders with no formal training
in accounting or finance.
 Is flexible and will happily answer the phone if everyone is busy.
 Preference will be given to McMaster students, but we will make our hiring decision based on how well
the successful candidate demonstrates the qualities we are looking for.

To apply
Download an application form at http://mcmaster.ca/maps/Employment%20applicat ion.pdf, complete it attach
your resume, and deliver it in person to MUSC Room 234 during our regular business hours (Monday-Thursday
9:30-7:30 and Friday 9:30 to 2:30). We will be accepting applications until we fill the position.
