Math 1Z04 Marks are up. Not happy.
It was a tough semester in 1Z04 and I worked hard, but I only came out with a 5 (C). I'm a little dissapointed as I feel I did very well on the final and I was going in with a B-.

That means I did poorly. Probably got not more than 50-60% or so on the final...

How about everyone else?

Everyone seemed to struggle with Sequences and Series.

If you think there's that large a discrepancy between what you feel you deserved and what you got, make an appointment with your professor to go in to see your exam.

Chances are, either they made a mistake (calculation error, inputted the wrong grade, etc.) or you did a lot worse than you thought...but in either case, you deserve an explanation.

I did pretty good on it. I was going into the exam with an A and finished with an A+. PatrickJMT was a HUGE help. . Too bad he can't do the same for Chemistry. :(

A 5 is a very good grade in 1Z04. Some people would have loved to pass!

The only difference between graduating from Comp Sci, and some Eng programs, is with Comp Sci you'll actually get a job; unfortunately, you cant sign passports for people. Too bad.

Go look at the recruitment rate from the Software Eng. programs last year. There's still top [graduated] students who are still jobless.
No one wants inexperienced Software Engineers. So until you rack up a few years it's tough to get a job. Entry level jobs will go to the comp sci kids straight out of school, because they can sit there and code for a year.

wtf? You can't use statistics produced during a recession to verify which program is better...you'd need to look at data from the past like 20 years, which doesn't exist.

Besides, we all know during a recession everyone wants plumbers and no one gives a dink about computers. :p

If you knew software you'd understand. Recession means dick. People who are worth a damn will be fine in a recession. Plant closes down? The people who are worth their pay will be clever enough to make it through.
People don't want Software Engineers without experience period. You can't prove you can do dick, and they don't want to pay you to train you on-the-job. The difference between that and graduating from Comp Sci, is comp sci kids don't need to have experience to do basic code. ****, anyone can do basic entry-level code. The thing is that Software Engineers will be expecting too much, nevermind they are trained so they WON'T end up doing the poop work.

Even in that argument, depending on the situation, for entry-level positions of this nature, a kid straight outta a 3 year software development program in college will get preference to someone with a degree. Again for reasons of pay-expectations, and the fact that a University focuses a lot more on theory, than practicality and application, whereas college will teach you how to get the job done. Go look at the curricula @ mohawk even. You don't take classes on IT ethics and bullshit, you program like a mother ****er.

Sources: Uncle head of .Net Framework @ Microsoft. Sees Gates on a weekly basis. Father President & CEO of his own company with heavy Software focus. Brother recent Software & Game Design grad.

Admittedly I don't know much about software, except:

"People who are worth a damn will be fine in a recession."

Not necessarily. There are tons of jobs that just become useless when nobody's buying, but before a couple years ago they were totally fine and important and relevant.
