Former McMaster Mauraders football great Jesse Lumsden is completing in the Olympics on the bobsled teams!
After graduating from McMaster, Lumsden went to play in the CFL, first with the Tiger-Cats and currently with the Edmonton Eskimos as a running back.
Lumsden was asked to try out for the bobsled team in the spring of 2009.
He said he jumped at the chance because:
1. I am Canadian! To wear the maple leaf at World Cup events and walk the walk of Olympians was an opportunity of a life time.
2. The cross training of the sport would carry over to my sport of football. Pushing a 400 pound sled with power, speed and ferocity. I can't think of a better way to simulate any type of short yardage or goal line situation for a running back.
His team won gold in the national championships and he made the Olympic team soon after. He is on the
two-man and four-man teams.
The two man races are on Saturday February 20th at 5pm PST (8PM EST). The four man races take place Friday February 26th at 1PM PST (4PM EST).
Best of Luck to Jesse Lumsden! Make your alumnus and Canada proud!
