McMaster expanding MacConnect Wi-Fi network

More updates just in about McMaster's Wi-Fi enhancement plans for the year. We'll soon be seeing expanded wireless coverage, as well as upgrades to Wi-Fi equipment in some of the highest-use areas on campus to add additional bandwidth.

The $100,000 expansion includes 90 new and upgraded Wi-Fi access points, with 12 buildings seeing upgrades or new service, completion date is set for May, 2013.

The upgrades and new equipment will use 802.11n Wi-Fi technology, and operate on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. This should improve availability in high-use areas such as the Student Centre.

Buildings receiving expanded and/or upgraded Wi-Fi:
  • A. N. Bourns Science Building
  • Alumni Memorial Building (The University Club)
  • Burke Science Building
  • Chester New Hall
  • DeGroote School of Business
  • Gilmour Hall
  • John Hodgins Engineering Building
  • Kenneth Taylor Hall
  • McMaster Museum of Art (Alvin. A. Lee Building)
  • McMaster University Student Center
  • Psychology Building
  • Togo Salmon Hall
