McMaster Radio Station
So, i won't lie, i'd never even heard of the mac radio station, but after giving it a quick listen i can say that it is quite good. It plays a strong variety of music that doesn't get much play on big name radio stations and is commercial free from what i can tell.

The question i have is: why the hell aren't we promoting it? I mean, when i say McMaster Radio, everyone gives me the same response.

"We have a radio station?"

You can listen online now if you haven't already: http://cfmu.msumcmaster.ca/

CFMU is awesome, it just won a best radio station in Hamilton award.

If you like any type of non-mainstream music chances are they will play it at some point during the week. I listen to it online sometimes, since I never listen to a real radio anymore.

There's likely just not much interest in general (i.e. A lot of people do not listen to the radio anymore) so it's sunk into obscurity. I'm assuming it was/would've been considerable more popular in the 80s/90s.

I understand the idea that not a lot of people listen to the radio in general, but it's kind of a source of pride to know we have one of the better radio stations around, i don't know a lot of other university's that can say they have a radio station(or at least not a good one).

I'm kind of surprised that there is ZERO promotion for something this successful.

I agree that it needs to be promoted, having the office in the back of the basement isnt exactly the most obvious place. I do wish that they would improve their signal strength though. If I dont listen online I cant pick them up at all. You would think that at least while on Mac's campus you sould be able to right?
good variety though.

They're always playing annoying garbage when I walk past their office early in the morning, so I kinda just forgot about them.. but yeah, they play some good stuff. Whats their frequency?

It's 93.3 FM i believe. Although i'd really suggest using online if you have to option, it's A LOT cleaner.

I've been meaning to give CFMU a listen. I've listened to UofT's community radio, CIUT, for a few years now and I always liked the variety of stuff they play.

Actually, you'd be hard pressed to find a school that doesn't have a campus radio station. They all suffer from the same problem- people just don't listen to the radio anymore. I've seen way more promotion for CFMU than people listening to it.

Its important to note that radio for music came into existence in a time when it was expensive and unwieldy to buy your own music. And now its gotten so convenient that for ~$100 you can have any song you want from an iPod or your phone, or on your computer for free.

I'll be honest, I really don't see the point of every student paying ~$16 a year for CFMU when so few people use it, or the radio in general, at all.

EDIT: There's also a ton of promotion for it when the MSU tries to show that not all their services are leaking money like a sieve, and they point to the surplus that CFMU usually has. A surplus that it gets by charging ~$16 per student >.<
