Actually, you'd be hard pressed to find a school that
doesn't have a campus radio station. They all suffer from the same problem- people just don't listen to the radio anymore. I've seen way more promotion for CFMU than people listening to it.
Its important to note that radio for music came into existence in a time when it was expensive and unwieldy to buy your own music. And now its gotten so convenient that for ~$100 you can have any song you want from an iPod or your phone, or on your computer for free.
I'll be honest, I really don't see the point of every student paying ~$16 a year for CFMU when so few people use it, or the radio in general, at all.
EDIT: There's also a ton of promotion for it when the MSU tries to show that not all their services are leaking money like a sieve, and they point to the surplus that CFMU usually has. A surplus that it gets by charging ~$16 per student >.<
