A McMaster Wiki
Someone and I were just talking and I wanted to see if there is interest in building a McMaster wiki. The idea would be to use the wikia system and have a bunch of users collaborate to create a wiki with information about Mac:
  • History of McMaster
  • Past events
  • Who's who amongst administration and profs
  • Departments on campus
  • Academic information
  • Information about traditions etc.
Basically a lot of stuff that we could use so that newcomers to Mac, or people looking for more information on a particular topic, could go onto the Wiki and find information that they are looking for.

The tough parts about this are finding information that is accurate, and having moderators and users who are committed to the utilitarianism of the idea.

Thoughts?

Not quite. MacInsiders is a news and discussion area. We could pool our respective knowledge of stuff and put it on the wiki so that we wouldn't have to answer the same questions day in and day out.

A wiki would supplement MacInsiders.

Not exactly.

I think it would be cool to start a McMaster Wiki. Other schools have their own Wikis.

I dig it.

I think there is also a definite need for a well-kept blog.

Cool idea Rohan! I have no problem setting up a wiki script here on MacInsiders as a 'Wiki' section to keep it all in one centralized place (hosted without the annoying ads and sidebar content on the Wikia site). There may be a way to integrate the accounts with MI with the Wiki so users can edit without having to signup for a wiki account which could increase usership and content creation in the wiki

Chad, if you can figure it out, go for it. Wikia is kicking my ass right now because I don't have the patience for it.

I had been thinking the same thing, if you want to do it with a dedicated domain, and a private server instead of the commercial wiki let me know could set that up right quick, I have server space etc.
