Micro / Macro Econ - Quick Question
Hey everyone!

So, i'll be first year in September and I'm going through courses and such right now
I'm in Social Sciences I

I'm thinking of taking micro and macro econ but I'm getting mixed messages about the course

Is it a good course ?
How math focused ?
Do you recommend it ?
Boring ? Interesting ?

Any information would be great!

Thank you

Well macro and mirco are two different course first of all. I'd rate them about a medium interest since a few bits can be a little boring. The math in both courses is not very hard at all. Almost every question involving math requires you to just solve 2 linear equations. The content in micro is more practical and has more math while macro is more theory based. They are not very hard courses and I'd recommend them both. If you have to choose just one, then I would go with micro since it is a little easier. Hope this helps!

You can do that or the other way around, macro then mirco. Micro isn't a pre-requisite to macro

No it doesn't matter. You learn different things except for the first 4 chapters (those are the same).

personally i found macro much much more interesting than micro. also macro has much lesser material when compared to micro. on the other hand my friend found micro easier. i would suggest you take micro first since the first four chapters in macro are same as in micro and your first midterm in macro will have only those four chapters.so you can ace the first midterm in macro. also i find macro's Aplia assignments much more helpful in the learning process and a free 5% that we get from a silly math test!

macro has more math when compared to micro. but the math in both these courses is really basic. as some one mentioned, playing around with linear equations.

I would say micro first and then macro just because first 4 chaps of macro are same as first 4 chaps in micro but i found that they teach those chaps better in micro than macro so it gives you an advantage, in my opinion, if you have already done microecon and then taking macroecon. as for when i took macro last winter, the midterm 1 was on first 4 chaps so it kinda helped me a lot.

hope this helps (:

Oh my bad, sorry about that. Micro then macro helps more. Because like Kanishka mentioned above, the 4 chapters are the same in macro.
