Mock Timetable Trouble - Help Please!
Life Sci student here, and I'm looking to go into Genetic Engineering research, so I'm considering either Honours Biochemistry (Biotech) or Honours Molecular Biology and Genetics.
I tried squeezing in all prerequisites and recommended courses, and that doesn't seem to have given me anything good. I could move BIO1A03 to second term to balance 27h/week of class, but that's "strongly not recommended"
First Term Mandatory Courses
MATH1A03 - Not offered second term, required
PSYCH1X03 - Not offered second term, required
CHEM1A03 - Prerequisite to CHEM1AA3, both required
Second Term Mandatory Courses
CHEM1AA3 - Prerequisite CHEM1A03, both required
Other Mandatory Courses
BIO1A03 - Not recommended to be taken in the same term as BIO1AA3
BIO1AA3 - Not recommended to be taken in the same term as BIO1A03
PHYS1B03 - Prerequisite for PHYS1BB3 (so if taking both, take in first term)
Recommended Courses
PHYS1BB3 - Prerequisite PHYS1B03 (therefore taken second term)
MATH1B03 - Conflicts with PHYS1BB3 in second term
Any recommendations for help (Should I take seven courses in a single term?), and any recommendations for electives?
Battered and confused,
Bryan Wu

Don't take 7 courses. you would get owned first term especially with the harder math and physics. Take only 5. Unless you really enjoy math, there is no need for 1B03. It isn't too tough of a course, but really isn't needed for those programs. I don't understand why they say 'highly recommended'. Also, if you don't really enjoy math then take math 1LS3. It will be a next to a bird course and satisfies math all math credits. And why do you need hlth sci 1g03? First term you should do math, physics, chem, bio, and an elective which could be hlth sci 1g03 or a second math if you wish. 2nd term you can just take the continuation of the courses plus an elective. And I wouldn't worry too much about second term yet. Most people do physics first term and realize physics isn't for them so they don't take 1BB3 physics until later years.

You do not need math 1B03 or physics 1BB3 for either of the programs you're looking at. It says they're recommended, but that means nothing. The vast majority of people in those programs have taken neither. Taking them won't help you get accepted to any programs either, since it's done based on GPA only. I would definitely NOT take that many courses in one term, especially not your first term at university. Either drop both physics 1BB3 and math 1B03, or drop one of them and your hth sci elective. Just so you know, SOLAR won't let you register in more than 18 units per term without special permission, which I doubt they'll grant to a first year since you need a minimum GPA to get it. I found this out when I tried to register for 24 units in second term this year (with nothing in first term) It would only let me do 18, but even then it seemed to think I had special permission to do that.
Just to add to what Jason said, you should also take psych 1X03 in first term.
Also by bio 1AA3, you mean 1M03?

Thanks for the clarification on whether recommended courses are useful or not. I'll probably be dropping one or both.
Any advice on electives?
