Hello Dragonfly! My name is Andrew and like Temara I'm a member of the SRA (for Humanities) and an Executive Board Member.
Most of the positions Temara outlined have since been filled, however there are some spots that are open for General MSU members.
University Affairs (1 Seat)
Maroons Advisory (1 Seat)
Teaching Awards (5 Seats)
Elections (3 Seats)
The
University Affairs Committee deals with policies and projects relating to things such as textbook price policies for our lobbying efforts, and projects like an online tutor registry for students in need.Since I'm not the UA Commissioner this year I can't speak with any certainty about any projects coming up next year, but university affairs is one of the more fun standing committees to sit on.
The
Maroons Advisory Committee advises and consults with the Maroon's Spirit Leader (who heads up the spirit squad) Honestly, it meets irregularly as far as I know because it's only used when the manager needs it.
The
Teaching Awards Committee assists the Teaching Awards Coordinator to select the professors most worth of recieving awards at the end of the academic year.
The
Elections Committee is the body of the MSU that votes on election rules for First Year Council (FYC) Elections, SRA General and By- Elections and of course MSU Presidential Elections, along with any other referenda that come up. It's headed by the CRO (Chief Returning Officer) and the DRO (Deputy Returning Officer). This body is also in charge of upholding election bylaws, rules and policy during the elections, assisting poll clerks during elections and assessing fines and penalities after any elections for broken rules.
I would highly recommend participation on the elections committee or the university affairs committee. Not that the other two aren't important, but if you want to get really involved right from the start these two would be it. We
definately welcome first years to it on these committees and even in September when we run by-elections for some empty SRA seats (if there are any) I would recommend you run if there's an opening in your faculty.
We also have the First Year Council which deals with issues first years might have, and it's chaired by two co-chairs. Those elections take place in September.
If you're interested in any of these committees, we have an SRA meeting this coming saturday to fill as many spots as we can, so send me your written acceptance of nomination to any of the above committees you want to sit on (We need written acceptance to confirm that you do indeed want a seat and that I'm not just making it up or something) to
[email protected] by Friday at 3pm.
That goes for anyone on here too, if you want a position email an acceptance of nomination and we'll inform you if you get the spot or not.
- Andrew
