If your in Soc Sci Level 1 do you have to take courses in the Soc Sci department? I applied to physical science level 1 to transfer to med phys level 2 but only was accepted to soc sci level 1. I want to just take the pre-reqs for the level 2 med phys and not take any from the soc sci department.

I let a friend use my account to ask this, to explain why a fourth year is asking.

Basically, he was accepted into soc sci but wants to apply to medical physics for second year. Does he absolutely HAVE to take the 12 units of soc sci in level one? Or can he just take the prereqs to apply for the program he wants? Other than psych, are any soc sci classes science-y in nature?

I believe he doesnt have to take the requirements, but if he doesnt and aplies for med rad and doesnt get in, soc sci won't accept him either. Also, for some courses he may need to get special permission to take them ie bio 1A03.

It's good precaution to take at least 6 units of soc sci during the term so that at least if he doesnt get into med physics at least he can take summer courses and apply for soc sci level 2.

I did the same thing as you did man, I was in humanities my first year (sept 2011) and now I'm going into lifesci level II.
Yes, you do need to take 12 units of socsci, minimum requirements. What I did was I took history, classics, media and theatre/film, to be considered a Humanities student, then I loaded my schedule up with science courses-enviro 1b03, bio 1m03, physics 1L03, psych 1x03 and 1xx3, taking math, bio 1a03 and enviro 1a03 in the summer.
they need 24 courses of science for admission, check up the prereqs on registrar

Tl;Dr- fulfil the 12 units of socsci (easy), fulfil 24 units of science. easy (you will need to take summer school)

They won't actually give permission to take bio 1A03 during the school year for people not in science, the person would have to take it in summer school.

And yeah, I agree you should try to take 6 units of soc sci from the same department as a back-up plan...also, the med phys prereqs should also fulfill prereqs for other programs as well, so that will also provide a back-up in case you don't get in to med phys.
