Newest building?
Does anyone know what the newest building being constructed is for? It's near the nuclear reactor.

I'm actually in favour of advancing our nuclear research program -- it's what's putting us ahead of other schools right now. We are the only place in North America that produces a specific isotope needed for medical research. Only Dalhousie, U of T, U of A and RMC (yeah, RMC, wtf?) also have nuclear reactors in Canada, all at a lower class and capacity than McMaster's. Only 3 of the US's university reactors are more powerful than McMaster's. So if that's what we can specialize in and become known for it, I'm all for it.

That being said, I'm not really sure what McMaster's priority list looks like, but I'm sure it doesn't match up with most students'....

Pretty much one of the only reasons higher education exists in such numbers and with the prestige the school has is because of such projects.

Thank you. Everyone is quick to slam it as a waste of money, but your statement is very true. Who knows, maybe there is even outside investment in it?

Exactly. And it's a research building, so not only could it be a source of income but it can lead to other discoveries that add to the universities "prestige." There's a lot of factors that come into place.

Not really. Your education is insignificant. Research-work & reputation, on the other hand, aren't.

Furthermore, it's shiny and looks nice. MAC seems to be working around campus to try and makes us look high-tech and fancy. If you think about all the spots the grade 12 tours go through, you'll notice they try to hit all the fancy new spots, and only view the old buildings from the outside. For example, the only cafeteria they run tours through is Centro, with all it's LCD monitors and shiny metal.

So I think that the building will not only help bring in revenue, but help our campus' image, which is a big draw to any university.

We already have a nuclear reactor and you're worried about this? I don't think anything dangerous will come of this. Scientists don't generally run experiments that will cause campus-wide apocalypses. Those are Mad scientists.
