No Bus Pass During Summer
This is my second summer @ mac. I was wondering if anyone has thought about bringing back the HSR pass for students who are here for summer. I am willing to pay a generous amount but tickets are just too time consuming and blah.... I just wish MSU would do something about it !!!!! There are lots of students who are here for summer you know!!!! Just throwing it out there!!!!:nerdpleased :!

There aren't enough students here for it to be worth it for the HSR. During the academic year there are 18 000 undergrads. During the summer, the numbers are much, much less. This is especially since a lot of people who have summer school commute on those nights.
How are tickets time consuming?

Suppose you could get a monthly pass instead of worry about tickets. If you plan to come to Mac every day, like I will be, its the cheapest route... though still much more expensive than the U-Pass that the MSU provides during the year. But it's only 4 months of shelling over money. Think of it like investing the money that you saved over your 8 months during school for bus tickets towards 4 months of summer passes.

A single ticket is $ 2.40 . Lets say I take 2 tickets per day and that would be $ 4.80. If someone is working 5 days a week then for a month bus fare alone adds up to $ 96. Now for the whole summer that will add to $ 384 . I did not include the weekends just the working days to and fro costs!!!!
$ 400 ~~~~ now that is a months rent for most of us!!!!!! the pass that MSU gives cost us just $ 60.
I was thinking, why make it madatory during summer. Who ever wants to buy the pass, let them and those who dont cant shell out cash every day!!!!

Last year (meaning 2007-2008) we paid $71.50 for the U Pass. Next year I think we're paying over $100.
And, as Chad mentioned a monthly bus pass is only $79, which is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying tickets if you're a frequent rider. In addition, you get a tax credit for buying monthly bus passes, provided you keep your receipt.

Also, bus passes are only available for full time undergrads. If you're taking summer school you're considered a part-time student, so no U pass.

I'll be biking to campus over the summer. I hear you can 'build your own bike' at MaCycle for CHEAP. Biking in nice warm weather is cool, plus I need a new bike

I just talked to someone who bought one for $12. The seat was $24, though...$36 for a functional bike?

Ya, a friend of mine got one for a little over $20. I think it's cheaper if you help them build it with you, and around $40 if you leave and let them do it, then come back to pick it up (dont help at all). But hey, why not help build it with them and learn all the parts? Either way, its super cheap and a great deal!

The city was offering a discounted summer pass in its proposal to the MSU in Febuary. You should check to see if anyone in MUSC 201 has actually followed this up.
