The only people I've ever heard of getting Remembrance Day off are government and bank employees. Never even got it off in elementary or high school.

When have we EVER gotten Remembrance Day off?

What's the point, anyways? So you can go get drunk with your buddies? Don't need a day off to show respect.

It isn't a statutory holiday (except to the government people) and hasn't been for a long time now. Although some in the Ontario government are trying to make it statutory again

It would just be completely stupid for it to be a stat holiday.

I don't see why they made family day but didn't give us remembrance day off. Anyone else with me on this one?

Spending time with your family that's bound to fall apart > remembering/honoring the people who gave their lives for our freedom.

It is a stat in a few provinces, and it should be in Ontario.

Family day was started just to give people another holiday. They named it "Family Day" for lack of another better name....

Also, part of the logic was, if people are at home instead of school/work, they're less likely to do anything commemorating Remembrance Day. Like, schools have ceremonies, many public places observe a minute of silence, etc etc...very few people would do these things at home alone.

I get it. Let's force the world into believing we're patriotic when we're really not.

Isn't July 1st for patriotism?

RD is about the individuals who died for their country, regardless of whether we agree with why they did (ie, I can disagree with the war in Afghanistan, but I can still respect/support the troops who are and were there).

July 1st is about how awesome the country is (supposed to be).

It's all the same thing.

But if it matters, allow me to rephrase:
"I get it. Let's force the world into believing we care when we don't."

No, we haven't had remembrance day off in a while.
I bet most of you guys just want it off so you can play games or get drunk.
Most of you probably don't even have a damn poppy.
