Not eligible for honours??
So at this point I am ineligible to move onto any honours program in the humanities, I knew this would be the case but, oh heeyy I didn't worry, because I thought you could do a B.A. in communications at mac, which is all I wanteddd!

So anyway, this means a whole BUNCH of the classes I wanted to take this year have a prereq that i'm missing (aka actually being in communications lol) what do i do! Is it possible that an academic advisor or something could just override the prereq so I could take the classes without officially being considered a communications major?

(Note: I took cmst 1a03 - the issue is just that my average is low!)

You would have to convince the professor of each course to waive the prerequisite.

That's how it's always done. Professors give out the waivers. Although they may need an explanation of your situation and it's up to them to decide to give it to you or not.

You can do a double Major BA in Communications at Mac. You can do a double major and minor if your really want.

As Sarah said, you will need to email the professors explaining your situation to get into the classes they teach. That way you will essentially be shadowing in the program and if your marks are high enough you will be admitted into the program at the end of 2nd year. Just don't send an email demanding to get in--explain that you had a tough transition to university etc, and you will definitely work on improving your grades in second year.

The professors in Communications are pretty good. I'd suggest you ask Dr. Savage ([email protected]) if you can get a waiver into the Research Methods courses (2A03, 2B03). I'll post a list of the courses offered in Communications. The master timetable on the Registrar's site has the list along with the Professors who teach them:

http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /CALEN...12/pg1855.html

If you need any extra help you should go to the Academic Advisers for Humanities in CNH. Feel free to message me about courses and the Communications program.

But like we mentioned, it's only a waiver. They generally don't have power over opening seats for students. (For example, I asked for a seat in Stats 2B03 in second year and the prof tried but I was ultimately denied by the academic advisers or the associate's dean office, can't remember who it was).

So you should be trying to figure out who is teach which courses and sending out e-mails now. If the prof isn't listen in the mtt then you'll have to contact the department to see if anyone is assigned to teach the course.
