There's been a couple topics about starting a band, but nothing ever actually happens.
I would actually like to start a band. I am looking for pretty specific influences, because there's no point starting a band with a bunch of different people who all want to play different things, or the band will fail.
My goal is to get a band and songs ready by the battle of the bands competition in the spring. I have time to commit, but not all the time obviously. Hopefully get together a couple times a week to write stuff, come up with ideas, have a beer, chill out because it's better than doing work.
I would like:
--Electric guitarist, 1 or 2, at least 1 that can play acoustic
--Bass guitarist (not as important cause I can pass as a bassist)
--Drummer
--Possibly a keyboarder that acts as sort of a multi-instrumentalist depending on what we decide
The kind of music I want to play is emotional, deep, powerful music. This can be something that is melodic but aggressive like Brand New; or slow and building like Sigur Ros.
ie, anything between this:
and this:
In short, just great music, but pretty dark and emotionally exploratory. I have no experience in a band, and I'm still learning as a vocalist, so I don't expect to be pro right away lol but I have a serious artistic vision and have a great natural ear for structure and tune.

i'm pretty interested in what you're going for. i'm willing to play piano and/or electric/acoustic guitar. i've been digging Brand New a bit recently, and i've also been a long-time fan of Sigur Ros. i'm curious as to what else you listen to ;o

There are 4 bands that dominate my most played list on my ipod/itunes: Brand New, Sigur Ros, Silversun Pickups, and Alexisonfire. But also heavy on the play counts: Envy, Mono, Chiodos, Silverstein, Billy Talent, City and Colour, Neon Trees, Franz Ferdinand, Funeral for a Friend, Killswitch Engage, Atreyu, Taking Back Sunday, etc... a lot of post-rock, post-hardcore, emo, dance/pop-punk.
Add me on Facebook (Brendon Carson) or MSN (bcars1990 at hotmail dot com).
Yeah that sounds good. I play guitar (usually electric). I've been playing for about 6-7 years and know a bit of music theory (more than your average guitarist anyway).
I listen to pretty much all rock from 60's British Invasion to 70's Progressive to 80's metal to 90's grunge to modern alternative rock. Besides rock I also listen to a bit of Blues, Classical and R&B/soul, in general I can appreciate all music, except for rap.
Out of the bands you listed the ones I listen to are: Brand New (The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows is an awesome song), Sigur Ros, Silversun Pickups, Alexisonfire, Billy Talent, City and Colour, Franz Ferdinand, Killswitch Engage, Atreyu and Taking Back Sunday.
Definitely up for some jamming in the near future!
That's awesome, but I gotta say, for the record I hate the word "jamming." Nothing makes me cringe more than the idea of some people sitting around and randomly hitting instruments. Not everyone has that much skill to just sit down and pump out an orchestra.

Not exactly what I meant by "jamming", but whatever. Hitting instruments can be cool when done well

I didn't mean literally hitting the instrument lmao, and I knew that's not what you meant. It's alright haha.
I'll let you know if I can round some people up.

always seen to have the same idea every so often but I am definitely not what your looking for. I am all about metalcore and post-hardcore I think alexisonfire will be the tamest thing I listen to most often. My Screams are dez and clean singing is average but I wish I had time to commit to a band. Good luck on yours though.

I may have to get used to the ideal musical tastes of this band, but it's been a really long time since Ive played with anyone, so I'm really down for anything probably.
Im primarily a drummer, but I can easily double on bass. The only problem is that I lack both here at Mac. I am trying to find a public drum kit around campus I can dick around on though.

No idea if this is still being thought out, but I saw Brendon's thoughts on starting a band "for serious" and I like the idea. I'm a drummer myself, having played for about 3, 4-ish years.
I've got my own midrange, decent kit, a Pearl Vision VX in Ivory.
I was in a band up until a few months ago as well, played a few shows here and there, including two small-scale battle(s?) of the bands, one @ the El Mocambo, another @ the HardRock Cafe, downtown Toronto.
In terms of musical taste; back in the old band, we'd play a bit of RHCP, Lostprophets, Coldplay, even Godsmack. So yes, all over the place, haha. I'm generally down for whatever I can adapt to, be it alternative rock, metal, even a bit of funk can be cool.
I'm not entirely sure if this role has already been fulfilled, or if this is even still on your mind, Brendon, but if we can get people together, find some common influences, etc, I'm definitely willing to put in the time and effort needed.

Sounds good. I'm still down for starting a band if you guys are as well.
m0ns13ur, we definitely have some common influences. I'm a huge RHCP fan and in general I'm pretty diverse within the general rock genre.
