Olympics
Just watching the opening ceremony, and I am proud to be a Canadian. Who's most excited for what sports? What do people think of the start of the opening ceremony? As for events, I am excited for badminton, swimming and track, but I'll probably watch most events if I can. Go Canada Go!

I think its good so far but I am most excited for Track and Field events and Swimming, I feel those draw more excitement due to heavy competition from BOLT and Phelps and their close runners up.

When the Canadian team entered, CTV spent like 5 minutes watching them and they missed like 5 other countries entering. and some countries were skipped during the commercial breaks u__u those are the downsides of watching the ceremony on Canadian channels.

I'll probably only watch archery and track and field. Maybe shooting.

I saw 5 minutes of the olympics, wtf LOTR not olympics. 10 minutes later I check it again I see a game similar to Alice the madness returns with a floating bed and "Voldemort" with an army of maid girls. Thankfully I saw Mr. Bean.

This actually makes me wish I saw it. Usually I find the opening ceremonies not too exciting so I don't even bother

The cauldron was beautiful! Mr. Bean never fails to put on a good show and the queen "parachuting" into the Olympic stadium idea was funny. It's such a beautiful thing to have people from all over the world come together for the Olympic games. I'm so excited for swimming, diving, gymnastics, and triathlon!

Another point. Too bad the LOTR part wasnt only one ring. They made it look like they made the one ring to rule them all and the ppl all happy. Then they had to connect all 5. At least as it was lowered it was spewing out gold like it came out of the forge

Thought the opening was pretty boring and didn't showcase GB well (I only have some English descent, so maybe I didn't get it, lol).

They went historical, but only did Industrial Revolution, WWI and the rest via a musical number. Why not a nod to the Empire and/or Commonwealth (visiting India, Canada, etc)? Why not something with knights and castles? Stonehenge?

Why no references to London itself (other than that Thames video in the start)?

Meh. I'm not really excited for any sports, I like the winter Olympics myself. But I might watch fencing if I find it (I want to understand it, lol), and I like to watch the horses...all depends on what happens to be going on when I'm watching tv, lol

Was it just me, or did a lot of flagbearers seem to do taekwondo?

@britb I think it was cause the person in charge of it was a film director. Hence the LOTR theme+Harry potter as successes

The James Bond sequence with the Queen and Mr. Bean was TERRIFIC. I also loved the part with Prospero from the Tempest. And the whole industrial revolution bit was phenomenal.

I am most excited to see fencing, swimming and gymnastics.

Was anyone else surprised that David Beckham won't be playing football this year? There are only 3 players over the age of 23 allowed, but I am so surprised he wasn't chosen! Maybe they think he's too old at 37.

man, I wish I didn't go to camp yesterday. I really did want to watch the Opening Ceremonies. I've been reading all over the internet and it sounded good. I regret going camping for this...

PS: Good Luck for Team Canada and Philippines.

I actually kind of liked the opening ceremonies. I know a lot of people who were disappointed though. I'll be watching much more than I have the time for :/, mostly swimming, fencing, football, tennis, and track & field, plus most of the events with Egyptian athletes.

I was surprised too, but I think age and his current form might have been an issue. Glad he got to be part of the opening ceremonies still though!
