No deposit. Got a cheque instead. Seems my bank refused the direct deposit. Finally!

I emailed the address given in this forum over a week ago and there has been no response. The cheque hasn't come in... and I live in Hamilton too, so it's not as if it has to travel a long way.

This is seriously pissing me off. Am I ever going to get it?

Wow that's a long time.

Is it possible you weren't approved for opt-out?

My brother and I have been waiting as well. Tomorrow I am going to the Student Union head quarters to ask them about it.

I didn't know there was an approval process. I've been opting out perfectly fine for 3 years, and we haven't switched insurance companies. I have a printed copy of my confirmation.

The email I sent bounced back to me - apparently that email address isn't in service anymore. Anyone have any other ideas? Who can I talk to at school? I'd really like my $140 back..

Not entirely sure, but try campus health: http://www.mcmaster.ca/health/contact.html I found most of the insurance information on there. If anything they'll probably direct you to the right people. But I think that's a good place to start.

Well when you put in your information they check with the insurance provider to make sure you have the coverage necessary to be able to opt-out of McMaster's health insurance and dental insurance.

That said as you've said you've done it for 3 years already and if there's been no changes so there really shouldn't be an issue, unless by some mistake you filled in some of the information incorrectly and therefore when they checked you weren't allowed to opt out or something.

Isn't that confirmation you print just a confirmation that you did indeed apply to opt-out, not a confirmation that you are eligible to actually opt-out? I always thought it was strange that they never sent you a confirmation after they checked with your provided to let you know you'd been approved for the opt-out refund.

Either way something just messed up somewhere with your process so you should definitely look into it. Good luck, hopefully things work out and you end up getting your money.

I emailed [email protected] ts.com and they told me to email [email protected] cmaster.ca, which I already tried to do but it bounced back to me.

Ugh.. I'll try to find someone to talk to at school tomorrow.

So I called Victoria's phone number several times, until she picked up at 4:30 PM. Apparently my name along with my brother's were "not on the list" for an opt out cheque. That's pretty unusual considering I have opted out for the past few years using the same exact information (no changes to my insurance company or anything like that). So she told me to email [email protected] r.ca the confirmation emails. I did that around 4:45 PM today. Hopefully they get back soon... just seems strange that they wouldn't tell us that we weren't approved for it.

I just got an email yesterday, and they've sorted out everything. Now I just have to go and pick it up from the MSU.

Aside from having to email them account statements dating back to September to verify that I paid all my tuition fees, they just made a mistake putting my name on the exception list.

Hopefully everyone else got their opt out cheques okay!

Parnian, I don't recall getting a confirmation email at the time that I signed up for the opt-out refund. Can you tell me what the subject line was in your confirmation email and who the sender was so I can try to do a search into my email history, since I might have to do the same thing you did to get the cheque. Thanks.

The subject line of the confirmation email was:

ACL Online Opt Out - Confirmation Receipt

They should have sent you one as soon as you confirmed that you'd like to opt out.

And the sender:

[email protected] its.com

Good luck finding it.
