Orgo in summer of 3rd year?
Hey guys, I'm entering Hons. Life Science (2nd year) and I don't know whether I should take both orgos during the academic year or wait it out till the summer of third year. The reason why I may not be able to take it the next summer is because I most likely will be doing a summer job/volunteering or leaving the country, etc.

Is it a horrible idea to do orgo in third year (summer)? I don't know if this is common as most people I know usually take orgo in the summer of 1st/2nd year....

Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Actually I would highly recommend taking it in the summer. It is far better to take it when you don't have other courses to think about in my opinion!

Take it during the fall. It is not that bad (put in 2 hours every night), also, you have to consider med school applications. My friend's mom is on the adcom for a top Canadian Medical School, summer courses are definitely scrutinized... I cannot comment on how much, though.

I am considering taking orgo during the summer because chem is definitely not my strength. However, I'm just apprehensive that taking it in third year will put me at a disadvantage. I've heard plenty of times that taking orgo during the academic year is very tough as it requires a lot of individual time.

i mean dedicating 2 hours every night for 7 months to orgo is gonna be unrealistic unless you have other courses which take no time. even if you have that time, i doubt anyone would do it.

A drawback of taking it during the summer is that information is taught at a much faster pace which means you have less time to actually learn.

You might think oh... we have all day during the summer to review orgo since it's the only subject I'm are taking. But realistically it's hard to be studying when it's such a nice day outside. Just my two cents.

Most Canadian medical school do enforce organic chemistry as an admission prerequisite. The only one I can think on top of my head is UBC. The medical schools in our province certainly don't require organic chemistry (i.e. UofT, Mac, Queens, Western)
