OSAP: Government ID
Hi, I was looking at the required ID that we needed to bring to pick up our osap and one of them was a government-issued photo ID. However, I have absolutely no ID at all. I don't have a passport, I only have the red and white health card (not the photo one), and I don't have a driver's licence either. Is there anything that I can show them as an alternative to the photo ID? Please help me :(

The following are acceptable government-issued photo ID:
[FONT='Arial','sans-serif']VALID GOVERNMENT-ISSUED PHOTO ID (e.g. Driver's Licence, Permanent Resident Card, Canadian Passport, Canadian Citizenship Card, BYID - formerly Age of Majority Card, Ontario Photo Health Card)
Do you have a Canadian Citizenship Card that has photo ID? The ontario photo health card takes some time to come in the mail.

Hi, welcome to Macinsiders. (:
I was in the same situation, and you'll be happy to know that there is an alternative to using a 'plastic card' issued by the government. There's a special form you can fill out, designed for people in our situation:
http://sfas.mcmaster.ca/pdf/osap_alt...id_for ms.pdf
Just follow the instructions, have a photo taken and have someone sign on to verify your identity. (:
Hope that helps!
EDIT: The form I posted is dated 2007, but I can't find a newer version (the restrictions on who can sign for you have been reduced). Please go in to the student financial aid office (SFAS) in Gilmour Hall Rm 120...they should be able to help you find what you need. (:

I actually went and got my Health Card updated to the new green one with the photo in it, and it's actually come in handy for other things than just OSAP. It's a little late to do so now for OSAP, but it's a fairly easy process.

I assume the line up is better now since a lot of first years haven't moved to Hamilton yet. And upper years are still at home and such.

Question: I just got my photo health card in the mail and it looks nothing like me. Will I get in trouble for it?

As long as there is somewhat of a resemblance and it has your name and birth date it should be fine.

I jus went to pick up osap today and i was told i didn't have to do anything else but on one of the papers they gave me it says :
After your financial aid office releases your loan/grant certificate to you, you must take it to either a designated Canada Post Outlet or the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) outlet at your institution to arrange for the release of your money.
So wat exactly do i have to do?

I really don't think you have to do anything else. As long as you signed the form that either releases the money to the university or yourself, you should be fine.

They might ask you questions to make sure it's you. So don't forget things like your birthday
