It doesn't actually have to be void if you don't want to void a cheque (if you have to pay for cheques for example). I assume that in the past they used to take the cheques, but these days they just need the banking information which is found on the bottom of the cheques (it's all those numbers at the bottom). You just have to transcribe those to the documents you have to sign. I believe you can also just bring those numbers and not even have to bring a void cheque. You can also just go to your bank and ask for that information. It's the transit number, institution number, and account number.
