OUTRAGEOUS fines
I'm being fined 42 dollars for bringing back a calculator late.
Is this a joke?

A laptop is 20 dollars for being late... >_>

A day late. They let me take it overnight because I had a midterm at 7 (innis closes at 6 and is closed on weekends), ended up feeling sick on Monday and didn't go to class, so brought it back Tuesday.

My thought process?
"It's a ****ing CALCULATOR, how much could they possibly fine me?"

42 dollars apparently.

Asides from a big list of contact people on the library website, not really. Probably just gonna have to go in and *****. I hate confrontation. >_>

Trying to find where they post all the fines information. All they have is the stuff for books and laptops. Laptops are $20 per hour which is reasonable since they're apparently like $2000 and they're in high demand.

But I've never gone to get a calculator and had them say "olol sry we r out"
I ****ing bought my casio for 9 dollars back in grade 9. >_>

That does seem a little much, but I suppose it makes sense. I imagine that is you don't return the calculator within a certain time frame they have to replace it. In other words you just bought a new calculator for the department since you failed to meet the return time and there is probably a late fee on top of that. Also I imagine that of the calculators that go missing, not all of them are returned, so they need to hike up the fine for the ones that do come back to break even. But there are much worse fines on campus, just be happy it's only $42 dollars.

My point in case for ridiculous charges is lockout charges.

  5. Lock out 8 & 9 = $15
  6. Lock out 10 & following = $20
I have a roommate who has locked himself out at least 57 times (I have a tally going for for fun of it). I also found out though him that if you don't return the lockout keys promptly they send maintenance to replace your lock at a $200 fine. Since we're in apartment style that's 2 locks for him. This totals at a minimum of $1,436 for my roommate to have the university lend him 2 keys and switch out locks they already had extras for.

I do like this fine too. I use it to shut the aforementioned roommate up. He has the loudest guitar amplifier in existence, which is a serious nuisance for me. One time he had it loud enough that people on the 1st floor complained to the Rez manager. We live on the 4th floor.

Turns out I also have a 40 dollar fine for loaning out a laptop from a library I've never even been to.

Thanks, McMaster.

[finding this all out now 'cause I just got all my mail]

How the **** does a 42 dollar fine prevent me from being loud and thus resulting in you getting more sleep? Can you guys be a little less stupid? Thanks.
He somehow got on the topic of the fine for violation of quiet hours. Seeing as this is a topic entitled "OUTRAGEOUS fines" it's not to hard to understand the how he might draw the connection.
