I know you can hook paypal directly to your bank account, but I believe you need more information than is found on a debit card. Security reasons and all.

Definitely trustworthy. I even paid for a laptop with it. No problem at all. It sometimes come with deal which is like cash back when you buy from some stores.

Thanks for confirming everyone.

There's alot of stuff on Google that says not to use PayPal, and that they can freeze accounts, etc. So I just wanted to be sure.

Paypal is very safe when you are the buyer.
I don't link Paypal to my bank account though because if sh!t hits the fan,
they will freeze your funds and/or take money from it. I connected my
credit card to it and it has been great for me. I only use it to buy NOT sell.

I've bought guitars that were worth more than $7,000 and I've never felt safer.

Paypal is the way to go if you are the buyer. Pro-tip: Don't let the seller say that
you should add 3% to your sale price to cover the Paypal fees. That is illegal.
And never, ever, ever, ever, pay with money order, wire transfer, etc.
I had a friend who got scammed for $16,500 USD for a guitar he paid for via bank transfer and as it turns out,
the scammers were using a middleman who lived in the US and the funds were sent to
a bank in Russia. The money is now long gone.

One more question. I want to purchase an item from eBay from someone in Asia, and it says free shipping. Will there be any extra custom fees, and can I know of these beforehand?

If he sends it through his country's P.O., it will come through Canada Post and you will
have to pay 13% HST on it. It is a hit or miss. Sometimes you get charged, sometimes you don't.

It depends on the item you are buying and the courier. UPS and FedEx are TERRIBLE.
They rip you off with duties, brokerage, etc. Stay away. I've had guitars shipped from Japan
via EMS and all I had to pay were the taxes.

What item are you looking to import and what price range?
Do you have an e-Bay link? I'll check it out.

Looks legit. Keep in mind though that sellers like these with the "Free Shipping"
selling point opt for the slowest and cheapest way to send stuff so it should
arrive anywhere between 15 - 40 days. I don't think they give you a tracking number for it too.

At that price range, I don't think you will get taxed on it but just in case, it's only around $8.

Well, most sellers on ebay only accept paypal now, not direct credit card. therefore in order to buy from them you'd have to register your prepaid credit card to paypal, which doesn't work. prepaid credit cards work fine on non-paypal verifying sites though.
