Photo Upload on StarRez
I logged into the residence portal just to check if my room assignment is still the same, and there was a new page that was asking me to upload a photo of myself "for security purposes." Is this for when i go to pick up my key on move in day?

Yes it is. It's so you wont have to bring a passport photo with you on move in day like previous years.

particle, vinny06 all say thanks to booboo for this post.

i know that last year they made us bring a photo for them to keep in a file, so if we were to lock ourselves out or something they could make sure its actually us that live in the room and not a random trying to get into the room... they could be changing it up this year and putting your info in the computer rather than on paper ? im not 100% sure but thats my best guess !

vinny06 says thanks to kirsten..! for this post.

yea, it makes sense that they're doing that electronically now. only thing i dont like is that if you dont do it, they'll charge you $ 20.00 to take a picture at registration.

Oh wow, really? So you're not allowed to just give them your picture on move-in day like before? Did you get an email with this info :S?

I'm not sure if you are simply allowed to give them your picture on move-in day (like before). No, when i logged on to the residence portal and went to my application, the first page had information regarding the photo upload. There were a bunch of criteria that had to be met for the picture (neutral background, full view of the front of the face, etc). However, there was a message that stated that if the picture we upload isn't useable (or if we don't upload a picture at all), we will be charged $ 20.00 at registration to take a picture. Having said that, we probably don't have the option to just give them a picture.

s.ma says thanks to vinny06 for this post.

I'm hoping they would. Otherwise, I don't know how a lot of people will find out about it unless they log in :S

Yea, a more official notification of this is probably coming soon by way of e-mail. Also, first year students who haven't found out yet will probably be notified of this at Welcome Day, if they attend.

They need a picture of you on-file anyway. They've always had this. It's just that before, you had to give them a picture, but now, you just upload it. The point of this is in case you get locked out, they can verify your identity before giving you a lock-out key. And I don't look-alikes are really something they have to worry about.
