Plan B for Med School
Applying to med school, but looking for a plan B.
I'm thinking about doing a Masters (for teaching/research purposes as well); however, I'd want to re-apply, and I can't find any grad programmes 12-months long other than the MSc Global Health (which I can't do b/c of health reasons and the overseas requirement).
Any suggestions? Anyone else in the same boat?

Why are you specifically looking for a Masters program that is only 12 months in duration when usually they are 24?

I know a Master's student who just stuck with the 2 years and decided to write the MCAT again one of those years. The extra year may not be a big deal, since you should be able to get a publication by then and some income. You may discover that you actually enjoy the Master's work and might end up going for a PhD.

You can look at the course based Master's (public health maybe?), but those are much less research intensive. This may be a good option since you can probably pause your studies midway.

You should look into other schools other than Mac if you're dead-set on hunting for a 1 year Masters course-based program. Not sure if there's a specific reason you want to limit your search to Mac, but there are definitely other schools that offer course based graduate work that can be completed in a year

If you're interested in actually seeing/trying research though, course-based ones are completely not the way to go. But just keep in mind when finding a supervisor, they can see you're a med-school hopeful from miles away (which usually isn't a good thing to show)

@PockyWarrior, Mac is an easy commute for me, so it's certainly a preference.
And I'm really interested in clinical aspects...not too big a researcher, definitely not in the basic sciences. Trying to opt for course-based masters wherever possible.
