Political Science 3V03

Taken with Dr. Sajed in Term II 2009-2010. Lecture material was interesting. Necessary to do the readings, which were sometimes long. I'm not a Poli Sci major and I found the class challenging at first but actually got a pretty good mark. Dr. Sajed is very approachable and she explains things well. Lecture slides were posted on ELM. Midterm and final exam were very straightforward: she gave us a sheet of 12 questions prior, 6 would appear on the test and we would need to answer 3.

Course Description:

"This course will provide an introduction to a broad range of theoretical and empirical approaches to the study of women and politics, including feminist theory and practices of feminist activism. More specifically, lectures will enable students to understand connections between women and representations of modernity, women and nationalisms, women, colonialism and imperialism, and between women and globalization. Students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with various Western and non-Western feminisms, and with important concepts such as gender, feminism, agency, political subjectivity, militarization, masculinity, among others. Theoretical discussions will be illustrated by case studies."

Course Breakdown:
  • 20% for attendance and ELM participation
  • 20% for midterm test
  • 30% for midterm essay (7-8 pages)
  • 30% for final exam
