Uh, was that directed to me? I'm in molecular biology and genetics... I have 6 required courses and 4 semi-required courses (they are on a list) for technical total of 10 required courses ^-^

On the department outline it says Political Science 2O06 is required, and I can only take a maximum of 12 units from political science.

So really i dont HAVE to take those other 12 units worth of poli sci am I right? As long as i have the required course in Political Science 20O6 and say maybe 2 other political science courses which equal 6 units i should be fine.

Because it does say a maximum of 12 units may be from level II however i dont want to take 12 units, am i fine take the required course and say just 2 other poli sci courses?

They say maximum of 12 units because they don't want you taking all second year classes instead of third year classes.

So besides the required Poli Sci 2O06....is it fine if i only take 9 units worth of electives from level II and attain the rest of the necessary credits in third year or level III?

Yes, that is correct. If you take 9 units worth of Poli Sci II electives, you'll have to take the rest (15 units) in Poli Sci III electives.

Should i stick with 9 Units or take the full 12? If theres anyone is 2nd year political science that knows....what is the workload with political science courses.

The problem is i will have 4 political science courses in 2nd semester if i take the maximum of 12 units...i dont want to be writing too many essays all at once as i am not a fan.

Will 15 units of poli sci next year be way to much or is 12 units in one semester this year even worse?

Thanks for all your help guys.

Throughout the year, you just need to keep up with readings. You'll also have essays interspersed throughout the year. Overall, it's not too busy throughout the year. However, it may get hectic is that at the end of the term because many classes have summative projects which are all due around the same time.

okay poli sci is the most screwed up thing ever and i hate it because im trying to do a double major and it screws up life.

here's the breakdown:

1st year - you do 1G06 - 6 Units
2nd year - you do 2O06 + UP TO 12 Units.
I say up to because you can do a max of 12 units. This means that you need to carefully plan your classes to make sure that you have all the prerequisites for classes you take in 3rd and 4th year. I suggest that you do not do more than 8 units of poli sci classes in your second year, just in case you need to take a prereq at a later time in your school career.
3rd year - you do 3N06 + 12+ Units.
I say 12+ units, as 12 is the least amount of units you can do. The one big condition you need to remember is that there is a maximum of 60 poli sci courses you are allowed to do in your school career. Since 2nd year and 4th year stipulates a max of 12 units of pol sci electives, you need to make sure that you are taking the right amount of poli scis in 3rd year.

of the 42 units done for general electives, you can manage to slip in 6 units of 3rd year poli sci courses, but ONLY 3rd year.
4th year - 12 Units.

it seriously requires a freaking map to chart out exactly what they mean by poli sci requirements...
