How prerequisites work
I'm just wondering if there is any way I could take a course at the same time as it's prerequisite

You'd have to get special permission from the Prof!

Depends on what the prerequisite says. Some say you can take it at the same time ("Registered in __________") while others say that you need to have it done ("Credit in ____________"). If it's not specified then it means you need to have the credit.

I don't think the prof can make a partial waiver like that. I know they can waive the prerequisite entirely though. You have to give them pretty convincing reasons though...

I've had many friends who are taking courses simultaneously with their pre-reqs just by asking the prof for permission.

Did the prof say that they are required to take the pre-req in order to get the credit once the course is completed?

Yup! A bit of a chain bargain, but they really liked the courses. Also, some of my friends have had profs who have also waived the pre-reqs entirely.

Email them now. See what they say. And if they don't budge, then annoy the hell out of them over the school year XD. The latter may not be the most logical thing, but sometimes, persistence pays off! Trust me.
